Husband newly diagnosed

Posted by momshmallow @momshmallow, 1 day ago

My husband is only 62 and was just diagnosed with Esophageal cancer. It sounds serious and I am very frightened. I want him to go to Boston which is only 35 minutes away where they appear to have a specialty group. How long can the wait be?

Hi I understand how scary EC diagnosis can be. I had it and went to Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa about 30 miles from where Charlotte and I live.
I ended up with 28 days of chemo and radiation which worked! The cancer was gone and I did not have to have surgery. I hope you find a great hospital in Boston. I found this list of hospitals in Boston:

Let us know how your treatment goes?

Hello it is very scary when you find out you have EC. I had flot treatment that’s 4 chemotherapy treatments then wait 4 or 5 weeks had surgery then wait 4 more weeks and 4 more chemotherapy treatments. I’m from Colorado. I’ve had a great team of doctors. Hope you find a great team of doctor’s. Ask a lot of questions. Trust is great. Also I’m 62. You guys can do this.

I had stage TB2 tumor where the esophagus and stomach join. I also had a tumor in the other side of the stomach.
I had surgery to remove both tumors and most of my esophagus along with lymphatic glands. Six months later I was skiing and today my life is mostly normal. Depending on your husbands stage he might just get it removed with endoscopic procedure, or if its stage 2b or higher with surgery like me. Hopefully he won’t have to do chemo or radiation but many have undergone that too and are doing fine. What matter is that he is getting treated. If he has to have surgery focus on getting a great surgeon. God bless both of you.
