How do I make it as easy as possible to move to MN?
How do I make it as easy as possible to move to MN ? I was told to get a case worker, just not sure where to start. My son's seem to get better help with there care at Rochester mn than in our home town. We have decided to move there ,or near there. Thank you

Welcome to Mayo Connect. As a mom, you are looking for the best care possible for your son. A move for medical reasons takes a lot of coordination.
Few things to consider and check into before you move your family:
- Is your son already a patient at Mayo? Have you requested an appointment yet? To start your appointment request use this link http://mayocl.in/1mtmR63.
- Insurance - if you move to Rochester, will you have insurance that is accepted at Mayo?
- When you say case worker (social worker) , do you mean someone from MN Human Services or someone at Mayo?
Do you care to share your son's condition?

8 ReactionsMoving TO MN? Personally, if I had a choice, and using Mayo doctors, I'd go to Fl. I have been there myself, and it was a wonderful place to live. Just a thought.

2 Reactions@nannybb I lived in Florida for 20 years. I moved to Georgia but would go back to Florida in a heartbeat if I could afford it. I would go to Florida. Why Minnesota?

1 Reaction@joycecates I had friends in GA
I loved visiting it there and hearing their stories of their childhood. Are you wondering why MN was mentioned? The original post was written by mom 9 and she was thinking of moving there. I would prefer Fl. 😉

2 ReactionsMinnesota is much more safe than Florida; better overall medical facilities; much better political climate; population nickname is "Minnesota Nice!" I have spent much time in both states and would never live full time in Florida. HOWEVER, having said all of that, the best answer to your question is above from Volunteer Mentor, Laurie! Wherever you end up I wish you and your son much luck and love!

4 Reactions@jmom9, is your son already a patient at Mayo Clinic? If yes, you can ask to speak with a social worker. They can help connect you with services to get started in a new town.
How are you doing with your plans to move to Rochester, MN?

2 Reactions@mikead63 Right, be careful about doctors in Florida!
when I was living in Southwest Florida I went to a Periodontist who put me in the hospital for a week with C-diff. he gave me ten days of antibiotics for a procedure that I did not need. And it turned out he WAS NOT BOARD CERTIFIED. He just liked to practice periodontics.

1 ReactionMinnesota, Yes there are about 10 days of summer & about 9 months of winter. I did live in Mn for 17 years before moving to southern Wisconsin. Tax's are lower in Wisconsin. Truly like the Scottsdale AZ Mayo in the winter months.
Observation, Those 3M folks who work in St Paul, when they retire, about 90% move to Florida or Texas !.
