How to seek a live kidney donor

Posted by tracylynnmcgraw @tracylynnmcgraw, 6 days ago

First, Please forgive me if I'm not doing this properly. This is my first time on the site.

A dear friend was just medically cleared for live kidney donation. I've spend the last 13 years (and continuing) fundraising for the American Cancer Society, and would like to know if there is a program akin to that for those seeking kidney donors.

If I"m out of line, please let me know. I welcome all helpful input and suggestions.

@tracylynnmcgraw, Welcome to Mayo Connect. I'm glad to meet you and to learn that your friend has qualified to receive a donor kidney. I know that this is an exciting time, and also a scarey time. You are absolutely correct in searching for information about proecee for receiving a lining kidney donation. I received a liver and kidney transplant 16 years ago. My donor was an annonymous deceased donor. I was transplanted at Mayo in Rochester.
I like to refer patients to the Mayo Connect Transplant Blog. There you will you will find information about Living Donors that describes all of the steps of the process as well as an informative video and a Q&A Section.
- Here is the link: Transplant: Living Donors

.
I would also suggest that you take the time to scroll thru the Newsfeed Section where there are many informative articles about living kidney donation written by Mayo Clinic staff.

What are some questions that you would like to ask?
