How long does bladder cystitis last?

Posted by scbil @scbil, Jun 21 12:43am

My wife just completed a four week regimen of radiation and chemo fof muscle invasive bladder cancer. She dealt with her treatments very well but has, since finishing, developed a lower ongoing abdomen pain, level 8-9, and constant and severe incontinence. We assume it is radiation cystitis and will see both her oncologist and urologist next week. Anyone familiar with this and how long has the cystitis lasted + what relieved this terrible pain?

So very sorry. Good luck for both of you.

I have only had bladder spasms--but it is enough to drive me crazy.

Thank you. Wishing you a pain free day.

For some people it can eventually subside. For others it requires bladder removal after all.

TMT can be appealing but is fraught with downsides such as treatment failure, never ending very frequent and intense treatments and discomfort. RC is therefore still most common. However, the advent of ctdna and related studies, may provide better patient selection for immunotherapy/targeted treatment that can exclude RC suitability in the future.
