How long do the hot flashes last? Another 3 month Eligard shot today
Hello all. I have completed my 5 1/2 weeks of EBRT for intermediate risk prostate cancer and had first injection of Eligard 3 months ago.
Gleason 7, Stage 2, PSA 8.9. 9 of 17 cores positive. Decipher 0.69.
I am scheduled to get my second 3-month injection of Eligard today.
I must say the hot flashes have been bothersome. I'm waking up every several times a night sweating and multiple annoying hot flashes throughout the day.
Just difficult to sign up for ANOTHER minimum of 3 months of these hot flashes. Haven't had a shot in 3 months and still having as many hot flashes when I first started.
As I wait for injection appointment which is only a couple hours away, I find myself searching for recurrence/mortality rates for those that forgo the second 3 month shot.
I understand there are others that are dealing with much worse than I am so don't mean to be insensitive.
I will continue to search for other posts on this topic but just curious what input/advice others might have.
Thanks to all.

Were you taking Prilosec in the morning? That’s why I switched the Orgovyx to the evening. I just about have no Hot flashes at all now. I have been on ADT for eight years and that may be a factor and why they have stopped, But I know when I took Prilosec in the morning and took orgovyx In the morning, my hot flashes were still there. Prilosec is supposed to increase the amount of side effects if taken with orgovyx within six hours. That’s also true of any protein pump inhibitor, Of which Prilosec is one.
@jeffmarc At your mention some weeks ago and following my last oncology appointment in mid-November, I switched to taking Orgovyx at bedtime. I don't think there's been a change: about one every three hours, or two overnight and the others scattered among waking time. They're not severe, mostly embarrassing or annoying and make falling back asleep a little harder.
over 11 years, still ADT, still hot flashes and night sweat. I grin and bare them but never get used to them.

I had significant hot flashes for six years on Lupron. At first on Orgovyx I had a lot of hot flashes, Then I found out my Prilosec was causing side effects to be worse so I started taking orgovyx in the afternoon And my hot flashes have almost completely stopped.
That is after eight years on ADT so that may be a factor.
I'm at one year with Orgovyx and still have them. I think results vary because the issue is not the medication but rather 0 Testosterone, so our results vary like women's during Menopause. I expect to have them until some time after completing ADT and my system does whatever recovering it can.
Although hormone therapy and ADT do cause hot flashes, hot flashes are also caused by low or absent testosterone. Going off the drugs will lower the frequency and intensity of your hot flashes, but they will continue as long as your testosterone levels are low. How fast your testosterone comes back has a lot to do with your age, your testosterone level before treatment, how long you were on them and your general health. As always, exercise helps.
I have been taking Eilgard since Jan 2024 and, just 2 weeks ago I had my last injection. I too am very interested about the afterlife of Eiligard!
For information, I had hot flashes for about 6 months and then they became less frequent. I was recommended by a friend to try Eqinovo tablets. I just searched yahoo USA, without results. However, the ingredients are:
Bromelain (from pineapple extract)
Papain (from papaya extract)
Protein-containing Lentil Extract (sometimes referred to as Defensan®)
Selenium (as Sodium selenite)
Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin)
I rarely get hot flashes, but heat up just when I'm trying to sleep.
Concerning fatigue, exercise has really helped me. If you possibly can do some exercise. I nearly always feel better. Basically, if I am going to feel fatigued, it's on my terms.
Good luck for the future.

Hopefully you mean < .1 you have the arrow pointing to greater than.
You don’t mention how long you’ve been off of the Eligard. It can take nine months to a year before the hot flashes become very minor. You need to have your testosterone checked so you have an idea what’s going on. Once it hits 150 or 200 things should be a lot better. My brother had six months of ADT and it took him over nine months before his hot flashes Reduced enough to not be problematic.
I take 600 mg of gabapentin three times a day. It prevents my joints from hurting, Had both knees and one hip replaced so far and the other ones gives me a hard time. The gabapentin eliminates their real pain, but doesn’t help hot flashes at all.
My oncologist had me get depo-provera Shots every three months to stop my hot flashes from bothering me while on Lupron. It really worked, until I went on Zytiga.
I used an Embrlabs.com Wave 2 device To reduce the intensity of my daily hot flashes and pretty much stopped the night, hot flashes, and hot sweats. It has two buttons, and you can set one for day and one for night. They’re normally $300. They have a $100 off deal right now with this code BFCM25. They have a 60 day moneyback guarantee
If you do get one post a message about that on this forum and I can send you the instructions for setting it up the best way. I’ve used the device for over five years and beta tested many of their products.

I know when I was having that problem at night the bed would get wet under me. It would be quite uncomfortable.
When the warmer weather comes around it may be time to do something.
