How long did you stick with Tymlos side effects before it got better?

Posted by lp30 @lp30, 4 days ago

I’ve only been on Tymlos one week, but the heart rate, nausea, headache/dizziness, dry mouth and fatigue are driving me crazy. I don’t want to give up, but I skipped a dose one day and felt great and it was heaven! Any encouragement out there from folks who stuck with it and it got better?

I took it for 3 months, side effects lessened.
However my heart rate was concerning to my dr and she told me to stop taking it. ( blood clots are possible)
Warm wishes, E

I didn't have many side effects, fatigue and nausea. I started taking Tymlos with a meal and the nausea stopped. I am still fatigued but I am old 75 so just take it easy...I sure hope this stuff works, been on it for one month

I’m sorry to hear that you’ve been feeling ill. I had flu-like symptoms for close to a month when I started taking Tymlos. I was pretty panicked but it did abate and now I’ve been on it for a year and a half and the only side effect that I’m aware of is, brief heart palpitations right after I take it. That’s really not troublesome, I’m used to it. And of course the belly fat lol, but that seems to have “leveled” off. DEXA scores have shown significant improvement particularly in the lumbar. For me the question now is what to do after my 24 months is up. I don’t like any of the other options, I’m terrified of the possibility of jaw necrosis and I also have acidic gastritis, so that will be an issue with some of the meds they are recommending. If anyone is reading this has a suggestion about next step medications I’d be happy to hear your input. In the meantime, keep the faith with the Tymlos, be gentle with yourself and try to hang in there if you can.💜

I’ve been taking Tymlos for almost 18 months and saw significant progress in my bone growth after one year. My side effects were difficult from the beginning and I lowered my injections to six with the approval of my doctor. It definitely worked for me. Now on to Prolia for two years and then possibly Fosamax for another one to two years.

@kaa1, I was scared to take Prolia or Reclast, so I chose a weak bioidentical estrogen patch, Menostar. I am still on half a dose of Tymlos with the Menostar. My bone markers were good after 2 months on this combination. I am 74 years old and taking a chance, but at least this is a natural hormone that my body was used to.

@ali77 I could really ask the same question that you have. I have been on it for 3 wks., and have been hoping against hope that the side effects lessen. I have a mild to moderate headache pretty much 24/7, and get so tired by the afternoon each day that I really have to push myself to do anything more. My GI tract is so messed up, with constipation, and some episodes of nausea and vomiting in the middle of the night, some 2-3 hrs after the shot. My memory and ability to concentrate are worse, as are my joint pains. My doctor doesn't seen too interested in any of these things, since they are known to be side effects of this drug, so I sincerely hope they decrease. I am 77 yrs old, but a busy person, and don't wish to be semi-sick for two years.. Best wishes for you in this adventure!

You might want to consider a break until the adverse reactions are at a tolerable level and then restart taking only a quarter of a dose (2 clicks). If after a week, the effects are still tolerable, then increase to half dose.
