How long after TKR will it continue to hurt to do stairs?

I don't really have any pain other than when I am doing stairs. It seems to hurt the most where my thigh muscle connects to the outer top part of my knee. I am 9 weeks out.

U asked: "How long will it continue to hurt to do stairs?" I'm not an MD but I expect I will have some level of pain forever walking down stairs. Bec I work at it, I've increased function, I've achieved greater ROM with the same level of pain. Via the gym, I deliberately increased the strength in my arms and my hands to assist me walking down stairs using handrails. That conscious effort decreased my risk of falling and reduced my pain when walking down stairs. Walking upstairs is easier but I deliberately built up my calves so that all of the lift is not borne by my knees. I made my calf muscles help with "the load" and intentionally decreased the load (my weight). Every single pound I lose is noticeable. If I want less pain, more function, my prescription for me was exercise, build strength, lose weight.

This morning's workout at the gym was "joyous". I was able to set the leg press machine down to 6 (from 7). The lower the number, the greater the bend indicating more ROM. 7 used to cause wincing, pain level 10+, but 6 was less painful this morning. It was positively delightful to make the gain, achieve more ROM.

What motivates me is rage, pure rage, that I made such a huge mistake agreeing to the TKR but I refuse to allow my mistake to disable me. After 2+ years of relentless effort, I am able to dance with my incredibly helpful and supportive wife, play ball with my grandson, fix my car, carry groceries up a flight of stairs, etc., and not become a couch potato.

Each of us has to make a decision how much effort we're willing to expend to regain function but every time I gain function, no matter how small, the satisfaction & happiness says it's worth it.

FYI, I attached a photo of the long needle the MD uses to separate my scar tissue which appears to be helping my situation. Your situation may be different so discuss w your MD. Are these procedures painful? Yes, but I simply don't care. I want my life back & I'm getting it back.
