How long after catheter removal did you start Kegels?

Posted by topf @topf, Jun 30 7:00pm

My catheter was taken out today. Buut I was advised to wsit one week before starting Kegels. Not only that. They also told me to just let it flow for one week and not trying to hold it back. Is that normal?

have you tried the Tena pads? they come in various levels from an overnight maximum to a level one occasional..You can carry these in yo0ur pocket the overnight one supposedly holds enough for a full bladder

Thanks - I'll search for the Tena pads to give them a try if they are slim enough and don't press on my perineum. My saving grace - my good news - is that I have no issues at night when I sleep. I don't leak or wet my diaper. It is all about "gravity", and laying flat in bed relieves any gravitation force on my bladder to release the urine. I do wake up at about 5:00 a.m. because my brain sends me the signal to urinate, but that is after a good 6-7 hours of sleep. My present issues remain that when I stand up from a seated position (couch, chair, car seat, squat, etc.), and if I walk too long, I will leak. "Too long" varies. If I made the mistake of leaving my house without emptying my bladder, and/or I had something to drink 1-2 hours prior, I might only last 5 - 15 minutes walking wherever I have driven to. I often park my car, open the door and stand to get out of the car, and I leak or fully urinate. Then I instantly remember: "oh ya...you drank that Diet Coke 45 minutes ago." So, I get back in the car and pull the wet pad and put in a clean one...but not anymore. I am pretty diligent about when "not" to drink something, as well as urinating before I go anywhere. If I am lucky and did urinate before leaving and had nothing to drink 1-2 hours before, I can sometimes go the entire errand or putting without leakage or full urinating. It suddenly comes to mind: "hey...you've been walking around for an hour and a half with no leaks or pee.

our experience seems very similar
How long have you been post prostatectomy?
/ I have had very similar symptoms but at five months- ballpark-I am seeing some nice progress.
Have you seen file:///C:/Users/Ed/Downloads/IPT%20Unabridged%20Final%206-18-24-1.pdf /

Most men see good progress around 7- 12 months

Yes, I also started six weeks before (though I had expected better results). My question was how quickly to resume afterwards.

Can’t hurt to continue until your bladder under control nothing else in my body is normal but I can only go to bathroom once a night and no diapers needed
