How do You Handle Appointment No Show Fees?

Posted by SusanEllen66 @SusanEllen66, Aug 10, 2023

Every minute of every day I never know how I will be feeling the next minute.
If I suddenly don’t feel well enough to make an appointment for a haircut, nail salon, doctor’s visit etc and they want to charge me a fee it’s hard.
I understand but for us we just never know.
How do you handle this?

@SusanEllen66 Boy, that is the question of the year. I have missed many because my brain just isn’t working and i show up on the wrong day/time or not at all. But, I’ve never been asked for a change fee. I would suggest talking to the manager. You don’t need to give them details of your disease and medications. Just explain that so much is out of your control and you would really appreciate some flexibility. Don’t know if it will work, but….

I empathize. I had to cancel an appointment today due to asthmatic flare & 3:00 a.m. onset of sciatica. I wrote a "mychart" message to the doctor whom I have gone to for years and asked him to be please be gracious and drop the $100 fee for a days notice cancellation as there was no way i could come in today. I feel like he will understand. Bless you. It's hard when you don't know from one day to the next how you will feel. I am sorry it is so hard for you not to make your appointments. God Bless You!

@covidstinks2023 bless you too.
We are definitely “spoonies” and it’s guessing game most days.
I’ve told new providers up front that they cannot count on me showing up every single time I am scheduled. Some are very nice especially when I explain why. Then again..,

People who have made a connection with me are easily flexible and willing to wave their fee.
Thanks for your input!

I've not run into a no-show fee. Do they try to charge this even if you call? Maybe it's because I live in a small (very small) town. I wonder what would happen if you charged them if the tables were turned.
Further, especially with a salon, they can take a walk-in. Good grief. And a doctor can get caught up as they are always running late.

@vellen oh yes, no show fees are posted online when making an appointment, and in the new patient paperwork you sign.
This pertains to most places where they require an appointment.
I live in a large city’s suburb.

Oh, I have never made an appointment online, no wonder. Small town living has its advantages.
