How do you deal with this diagnosis?

Posted by jmoshore @jmoshore, Sep 8 1:45pm

I have had strange BM for 55 days. Got a contrast cat scan Saturday and ER Dr told me I have rectal cancer. I'm losing my mind. Did anyone ever just have this to say you had cancer ? Thank you

I am with you.
I was good, then boom!
Stage 3 rectal cancer.
Treatment is chemo, radiation then surgery.
I'm on the follow chemo regimen. Completed 5 cycles of 8, currently delayed a week due to blood count.
There is no handbook for this my friend.
There is great support through sharing on a at form such as this.
Healing vibes your way✌️

My uterus is now enlarged and my tumor marker was normal blood work is normal apart from inflammatory .workers are high. There is no tumor showing yet drew tell me I most likely have this. Nothing is adding up. I'm still 4 days away from the colonoscopy and still waiting on pelvic MRI. This is making. Me crazy .

Hearing the diagnosis is a tough moment…my heart goes out to you ! I think i was kind of numbed…into, okay, now what ?… One step at a time, and i try not to project my negative fears, but to try and figure out what i needed to do….for me, i had to focus on setting up legal and bank business, and getting bills on auto-pay, so my wonderful cousin POA/health advocate would not have any problems helping me—so i could rest my mind that , whatever happened, I’d done what had to be done. Stage 4 quite sobering, to say the least… whatever your diagnosis, you will find strength you never thought you had…best of luck !!

No cancer is not a death sentence! For me it was the chemo! Had Stage IV colon cancer 25 years ago! They got what they could and said I needed chemo! I did one week! Had an infectious reaction to the chemo. Two weeks later I was taken to ER where I went on a four stage body shutdown! The doctor gave me two hours to live!
Was in a coma for two weeks! But i made it!
I never went back for chemo! Instead I devised a plan thanks to a book I read called "TROUT WATERS"! The author had gone through a similar circumstance with chemo and colon cancer. He took a year off and fly fished! His cancer never returned!
Luckily my job took me from the Mexican boarder to the Canadian boarder!
I was traveling in a 36' motor home through the Rockies.
So my plan was to take my fly rod and fish when I could! NEVER GOT OFF THE MAIN HIGHWAY! JUST FISHED WHERE I COULD!
I was on a river all or part of 200 days of that year! (INTERESTING, I HAVE NEVER HAD A BETTER SALES YEAR SINCE THEN)
The cancer has never returned!
My point is you can cure yourself by setting a goal and then find something you have always wanted to do and do it with your whole body and mind!
Good Luck and my Best for you to recover!

Hang in there, not easy…one step at a time… if there are questions, sometimes only a PET scan or further testing can reveal what’s happening… if you ;truly feel the need, advocate for what you need… best of luck !!

Thanks NaNa! I am the "BOP" of one grandson!
He and I talk about life. Even though it was before he was born, I try and teach him about taking everything that comes your way can be dealt with a POSITIVE mind set!
As an OLD mentor of mine told me 50 years ago, "THERE ARE NO PROBLEMS, ONLY OPOTUNITIES!"
I've used that thought to accomplish much in my Life! Weather it is my physical health or normal day life!
It's been amazing what the Mind can Achieve!

You are a true inspiration to many who feel very depressed for a long time.Initial shock and anxiety should be dealt with calmly.I sat and cried for five minutes. Then told my self ,brace up,what next..Aceptance is the first step towards clarity. You have that .So all will be well. All our best wishes are with you
