How can I get relief from constant quad pain after knee replacement
I have been in constant life altering pain for 5 weeks. Knee is fine but nothing helps the muscle pain. Can’t sleep day or night

How can this pain be stopped?

Did you have surgery 5 weeks ago? Did you talk to your surgeon postoperative about your pain? Were you prescribed pain medication postoperative? What were you told to expect after surgery for recovery time and physical therapy? My understanding is physical therapy is really important after knee and hip replacement surgeries to minimize pain and mobility issues.
I wonder if you have quadricep pain due to changes in your alignment with your new knee and if steroid injections would be of any help or heat/cold. Have you done any stretching of your hips/hip flexors?
If your surgery was five weeks ago, and you have been adhering to the rehab schedule you were given, pain should be receding by now.
I'm assuming you're still in post-op physical therapy, probably twice a week. Does your PT have any ideas about the pain?
If you haven't, please reach out to your surgeon asap. There may be a problem with the placement of the prostheses. As another commenter mentioned, post op rehab is vital for recovery. If you're doing that and still having pain, best to see the surgeon.
All the best to you.
I'm sorry you are experiencing so much pain. Can you describe your at-home routine - daily activities, medication, icing, how and when you elevate your leg, how often you do your PT exercises?
What was your level of pain and activity before surgery?
Have you asked your knee replacement physcian about therapy? I googled your concern and "therapy" is the response.
Did you perform therapy as required? I M preparing for knee surgery by doing 40 leg lifts 3 times a day as well as heel slides (sitting and sliding the heel of my foot forward with toes towards the ceiling). I M 80 yrs of age. Therapy for you may be quite different. Consult with your physician and/or therapist.
Hi firefly,
All the best for your upcoming surgery. Are you getting a TKR?
Pre-hab is a great idea. One other suggestion - practice pulling your foot in towards the chair when seated (ideally on a hard floor and in socks). This will help with flexion. The exercise you do, sliding your foot away is also good and referred to extension. Ideally, flexion should be 120 degrees or greater while the goal for extension is 0 degrees (kneenis locked and straight).
All the best to you! Joe
Yes, left knee TKD. December 13th I was hit by a car while I was in a crosswalk. Now I have to go to therapy because I've got pain down my right side from my shoulder to my ankle creating a problem for my right knee which is sketchy to begin with. I don't know what's going to happen.
