Hotel and accommodations in Jacksonville, FL
My father is diagnosed with AL Amyloidosis, and we are beginning the process of getting a second opinion consultation at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville. His symptoms include severe neuropathy that has rendered him entirely wheelchair-bound, and he has issues with balance, transfers, etc. which he manages at home well enough, but he has not stayed anywhere other than his house (where he has a hospital bed set up in his living room) or in a hospital since his disease progressed to this point. The Jacksonville Mayo Clinic is about a 6 hour drive from us, and he's extremely nervous about making this trip. Just the drive time, being seated in a car that long, is very intimidating, and he's very anxious about having to stay in a hotel room and navigate that. His ideal situation would be a hospital "observation room," but my understanding is that Jacksonville Mayo doesn't offer this for consultation patients, so I'd love some recommendations for extremely... accommodating... accommodations for a medicaly / physically fragile patient. I called the hotel on-site at the Jacksonville Mayo, and they explained that their accommodation rooms have lower beds and accessible bathrooms, which may be the best we can do, but if there's an option that has a hospital bed with rails, and possibly a reclining chair or adjustable bed in the room, or even a seated shwoer chair, that would make him feel a lot more optimistic about this trek. He's understandably very apprehensive about it, and my sister and I (one of whom would be traveling with him) want to do everything we can to keep him as comfortable as we can and to relieve his anxiety. I'm grateful for any suggestions or tips anyone may have!
