I have my follow up post op 4 week appt. on 5/13 to discuss the nerve issue. So we will see what the doctor says. I'm afraid to take Gabapentin, I get very depressed. I was doing some research and found there is therapy for nerve damage? Have you heard of that?
There are a number of stimulation techniques to help nerves heal, but this may be too soon after surgery to employ them. Many are things the PT can teach you to do at home, as they need to be done a couple times a day to be effective. These are quite simple, and effective at easing or stopping some of the symptoms. The stimulation is also reported to help the healing of the nerves go a little faster - but faster is relative - the neurons need to be rebuilt and reconnected, and have their own timetable.
Maybe you can ask the surgeon for a PT referral, once he confirms everything is healing properly.

I have not heard of nerve therapy but I have heard of people going to PT for nerves, so maybe the same thing? I’m sorry gabapentin makes you feel depressed, I don’t notice a difference when on it. Let me know if you discover anything that helps.

Nerve therapy is for stimulating angry/damaged nerves while they are repairing themselves, usually after an injury or surgery. The techniques taught vary based on what helps the patient

Who would you see for nerve therapy like that? I’m almost 5 months post op and I’m willing to take gabapentin for an extended amount of time but not forever….meaning not past 1 & 1/2 years.
Lyrica(pregabalin) or gabapentin might be considerations of your provider, to use as needed for nerve pain, and if you don't have contraindications or prior adverse reactions. My orthopedic surgeon uses pregabalin, as needed, but I didn't use this, minor numbness resolved over a month.

At this point you may need to consult a neurologist, but a PT who specializes in managing nerve pain is the answer. First, someone, either ortho or neurologist, needs diagnose the issue.
I’m 4 months post op for anterior hip replacement. I am still experiencing nerve pain and numbness on the side of my thigh. I am taking gabapentin and hoping that by 12-18 months my nerves will reconnect. I would not be able to tolerate the sharp hot fuse like pain without the gabapentin. I massage the area and use ice and heat for stimulation.
Does the pain radiate up and down your thighs? I am getting ready for hip replacement and the pain that radiates up and down my thighs is worse than the hip pain.

The pain and numbness is in the same area of my thigh. It does not radiate up or down and I had zero pain on the side of my thigh before my hip replacement. My nerve pain is from my anterior hip surgery where they often cut your femoral nerve because it’s very hard to see, even when they are very careful. I traded one pain for another :/
Could your pain be from a nerve in your lumbar spine?
Best to you for your surgery.
