Intresting question, Karen, as you bring up many factors in thes three sentences.
Firstly, platelets are neither white nor red blood cells per se although they are generally assessed under a category of CBC: Complete Blood Count. Platelets are small fragments of the blood that assist with clotting - too few and the blood cannot clot properly, thereby leading to potential hemorrhage in some cases; too many and they can predispose to conditions associated with too much clotting.
It appears in the past you did have a condition associated with one of those factors, requiring the monitoring you're having now.
Since you've had this monitoring and testing, there ought to be a provider who ordered it and can guide you accordingly on the implications of the current results and the various options to manage it. The provider can discuss such things as risk vs. benefit.
If you've not already made a follow up appointment with your provider to discuss this, it would be advisable to do so. There may be new options available that agree with you now.
We're all on this forum to check in with one another to stay in the best of health so hope you maintain that!
