GI issues: Anyone have high inflammatory markers with a reason?

Posted by johnbluffside @johnbluffside, Sep 9, 2022

I was dx with ibs . I have had intense pain for 3 years . Every test and scan possible. Only outcome was on my last lab my inflammatory markers were high. They did another CT scan of the abdomen and pelvis . Negative. Tried every rx , gut therapy, accupunture, FODMAP diet, etc nothing helps
Anyone have high inflammatory markers with a reason? Anyone have any luck with anything? Thank you!!

Functional Dr did exam and said he feels it is SIBO. Put on strict diet for 4 weeks, & probiotic.

Blood work negative except, high inflammatory markers . Vit D a little low.

CT scan of abdomen negative.

Endoscopy and colonoscopy show ulcers. GI said not to worry about SIBO to many false positives. Put me on ulcer rx. Over time the PPI depletes calcium levels and can lead to osteoporosis. Do not like how they make me feel. Tried per his suggestion
Gut hypnotheraphy. Did nothing.

ENT feels it is high histamine levels. Allegra, protective pillow & mattress cover, hypoallergenic furnace filters & central vac doing nothing.

Registered dietician feels high histamine levels and high salicylates.
Tried diet & histamine rx did nothing.

Extreme sore throat, extreme back and neck pain. Feel like I am “sick” every day. Fatique, weakness, sun sensitivity for 3 years now.
They say pick a dr pick a plan …

John, I'm reading your message the same way @gboi is - namely that you don't have a definite diagnosis yet. Is that correct?

If SIBO is being considered, you may benefit from reading these discussions:
- Small Intestine Bacteria Overgrowth (SIBO) https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/small-intestine-bacteria-overgrowth/

I wish you patience and resolution in your quest for answers.

@gboi

Sounds to me like you don't have a diagnosis you like yet, but are leaning towards SIBO. If I was in your position, I would demand that my GI set me up with a breath test for at the very least hydrogen, and if available, for the other gases, and if positive treat with Rifaximin for 2 weeks. If you "get better" during rifaximin at least you know that a bacterial overgrowth is causing some of your issues ... don't know what to tell you about ulcers. Good luck.

Had expensive breath test at hospital positive for SIBO
GI doesn’t feel it is though
Said no diarrhea and too many false positives
