High impact foot hop study 50 hops a day for osteoporosis

Posted by geranium1 @geranium1, Oct 11, 2025

My physical therapist was enthusiastic about this study where 50 hops on each foot a day for 6 weeks increased BMD. I am to start low and slow and work up to 50 hops each foot. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33159533/

Im 63 osteoporosis found with 1st dexa. On forteo daily. I want to exercise specifically for bone strength, however most PT and trainers dont have the knowledge and focus.
Any recommendations to source an effective exercise plan in addition to food and vits?

@donnapace I found a PT at NYPresbyterian who focuses on my OP and building strength in my achy back…is there a large medical center near you that might offer this ? …..Mayo has good info online, Harvard medical school has several useful publications, Margaret martin has all kinds of videos- and her book is very helpful…the sources are many….that said, not all exercises are for everyone, especially if you have spinal issues, or back pain. Also, my osteopath/MD is helpful..wish you the best !

@patwerthman Early claims about the vibration plates were promising, but I believe there are a number of factors you need to consider.

@derrsk11 hopping could be good for some, but it is relatively high impact, not great for those with spine issues, according to my DO/MD.
