High Eosinophils with pain in left side under ribs and very itchy

Hi, my name is Gina and I am new to this site. I have been suffering for four years with very high heels on and off in the thousands. I get very very itchy with no rash and I know exactly when my fill up soon as they do do bloodwork it’s back up again. First thing they did was Allergy testing for foods and I’ve had that done twice I’ve had tons of blood work. I’ve had endoscopy to stomach. I’ve had colonoscopies CAT scans. You name it. I’ve had it in the beginning when my sin would get high I would have severe pain under my left rib cage and my back that would actually leak me over. To know I’ve been to so many doctors and everybody says I am a challenge. They cannot figure it out. I went to a hematologist. I went to infectious disease, doctor, my regular doctor as well as Allergist and auto immune doctors.
Recently, my numbers went back up again. I was very itchy. My doctor suggested go to the allergist one more time when he went over all of my history and test results and bloodwork. He said there was no reason for him to test me for allergies that definitely was not any allergic reaction, he asked for all of my blood work from Rcca which my Hemotologist works at they deal with different types of blood cancer . The itching has been so bad. My pills are very high right now. I just went for a ton of blood work the other day and today some of them will take 10 days to come back. I am very nervous because they are checking for leukemia and blood disorders has anybody ever had this problem? I know there’s nothing I can do until I receive my results but until then, maybe I can hear something that will calm me down, thank you to all . Gina

Gina:

Severe pain under your left rib cage sounds like potential spleen involvement and itching could be a cytokine reaction. Both can be a potential indication of some forms of leukemia. I have those too and I have SLL (a lymph predominant form of leukemia).

Your hematologist will be your best bet to obtain a definitive diagnosis and path forward. Be a “patient patient” as pathology tests take a while but will help your doctor have a clear understanding of your condition.

Thank you much appreciated. Yes, I’m very anxious because this has been going on for years and I do feel this doctor will find the culprit. I just want to feel better. Good luck to you and help you thank you again, Gina

Hi Gina @rgiudice09

Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. It’s really frustrating when you go through so much testing and they can’t quite put a label on what ails you, let alone treat it.
Unfortunately @fortunateoldguy nailed it when he said “be a patient patient.” It might be tempting to speculate if we have similar symptoms, but we are not physicians.
There are some things that we as patients can do to help in the diagnostic process. The first thing is to take accurate notes with time frames when there are symptom flareups. Are there times where you feel more itchy? What have you eaten in the 24 hours that preceded that? Have you been exposed to new laundry detergent or any kind of chemical? Keeping a diary of symptoms and those time frames along with your actions that proceed them will really help clinicians narrow down what’s wrong. There are so many environmental stressors that we cope with and sometimes it’s hard to pin down external factors that may be influencing our health. Your physician will have to decide if any of your blood work results give a clear picture of what might be wrong.
Although it’s tempting to spend a lot of time “in the stacks“ in Dr. Google‘s library, your symptoms are so nonspecific that I think it would be hard to know what to look for. Besides that, Dr. Google is a glass-half-empty kind of doc. Spending too much time there will increase your anxiety and anxiety is not your friend.
Did the lab give you any idea how long the results will take to get back? I always encourage people to call their physicians office and ask if they think that things are taking too long. The squeaky wheel and all that.
Will you let us know what you find out?

@beccq, I agree with @pmm. This sounds like a situation for a medical professional. Please contact your doctor or go to the nearest clinic or emergency department.

@beccq, following up. Did you see a doctor about the blood clot? How are you doing?

@billy70, you mention that you have leukemia. Is this itching and burning something new since your diagnosis? Has your doctor ruled out any infection or inflammation?
