High blood pressure.
Is 124/82 considered high blood pressure? I was prescribed medication and having some issues since I started taking medication.

Hi @chilindrina, I think 124/82 is considered elevated but it's just what I've read. Hears what Mayo Clinic says about the numbers - Blood pressure chart: What your reading means: https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/high-blood-pressure/in-depth/blood-pressure/art-20050982.
What kind of issues are you having since taking the medication? Have you talked to your doctor to see if there may be alternative meds?
@chilindrina
Personally I wouldn't take it. If your older you might want to check a blood pressure by age chart.
Good luck,
Jake
Muscle aches, a dry cough.
Thank you very much. I will check a chart.
Hi, you did say how old you are?
I have Conns disease( endocrine disease) and that does cause severe muscle cramps and aches.
Do you have excessive thirst, weakness, tiredness,fatigue or heart palpitations?
It does start very insidiously but my BP was Much much higher than yours.
Since this discussion is part of the Diabetes & Endocrine System group, I’m jumping in here. Diabetes affects anything else you might have. Anything else you might have affects the ability to control diabetes. The blood pressure you mentioned would not be considered high for me. But this is not a place for members & mentors to diagnose or prescribe. We simply share what we have experienced to support each other and that no one is alone. You (original author) didn’t say that you are diabetic, what med you are on for blood pressure control or what issues you are having. Would you be comfortable doing that? A common blood pressure medication, Lisinopril, has a side effect of a dry nonproductive cough.
I was on lisinopril, then PA change it to valsartan 40 mg and it lowered my blood pressure too much And I started getting bruises. Went to the Dr and now I have losartan 25mg. It’s awful I am 74 and I had never been on any medications. I am pre diabete.
That doesn’t seem high enough to warrant BP meds-the bottom number is elevated but not terrible. There are hundreds of BP meds on the market so work with your doctor on finding one that’s right for you. And check your BP several times a day until you find a Med that works for you.
I agree that's not high enough on a one-time reading to warrant medication in my experience. Have you tried altering your diet to eliminate salt and switching to foods known to help lower blood pressure like beets, bananas, salmon and such? We ditched salt years ago in favor of herbs and spices for seasoning foods. It has helped a lot.
Thank you very much I will do that.
