Hey everyone I might have lung cancer and I recently started feeling chest pains and a little bit of breathing difficulty I've actually quite smoking cuz I realized how it really affected my but to the point I wanted to confirm theater these are the symptoms of lung cancer because I'm mentally preparing myself for something I know is coming so I'd like to thank my whole foster family for taking me in and raising me and I'd also like to truly apologize for all the things I've done up till this point I really wish I could've been better but I failed at that too it's deserved and I'm willing to accept punishment from the lord for my sins

Hi @pulengmphelo. It sounds to me like you’re going through a very scary period in your life and have been through a great deal already from a young age. I don’t know your background or the reason you were placed in foster care. But it feels as though you’re carrying a lot of burden on your shoulders for someone so young.
You’re not a failure. We all make mistakes, especially when we’re young. It’s all part of the growing and maturing process. Lessons learned from mistakes me make, teach us that we can do better and that helps us grow into better human beings. From what I’m reading here, you’re quite brave for wanting to make amends and I know from now on you will try to make the positive improvements. Sending you a hug for strength!

But let’s address your concerns of lung cancer. Not knowing your age, I can’t help but feel you’re still quite young. The likelihood of lung cancer at an early age isn’t very common. More likely your symptoms could be allergies, asthma, cold induced asthma if you’re in a colder climate, bronchitis…the tightening and difficulty breathing could be from the increasing anxiety you’re experiencing. The only way you’ll know for sure is to have a medical evaluation where the doctor will listen to your chest/breathing. Perhaps a chest xray or CT scan.
I think you’ll feel a sense of relief once you go have this checked out instead of worrying.
Have you gone to see a doctor or urgent care about your symptoms?

Thank you very much mam hearing that puts me at ease but I really do thinks it's cancer or atleast respiratory infection but I fear the worst I'm 18 turning 19 I've been smoking for about 5 years now and everyday since it's first became a craving till recently the epiphany of possibly having cancer I will try communicate my symptoms as the days go by I just wish anyway who smokes most would use this as a wake up call too change your lifestyle like I said I'm in a really tough spot so all the support could do me could I don't know how to look at my family anymore because of this because I see it's hurting them seeing I Might be dying. But here's me hoping we don't even have the money should I acquire surgery so that's exactly I'm trying my best to accept what's coming I'm mentally training right now for what's to come

Let’s not go putting the cart before the horse, to use an old expression. Honeslty, it would be really very rare for an 18 year old to have lung cancer and I’m more worried about your health from all this stress over the unknown!

Truly, I know it’s human nature to think worst case scenarios. I’ve done it too. But I’m old enough to be your great grandma so I can say this with some authority, that most of the time the things we fear the most are the stories we put into our heads!!
The way I fight fear is getting right into its face! If something is bothering me with my health, I’d rather find out right away than to worry about it. Worry is wasted time!

You’re mentally training yourself for possible surgery. That shows me the solid willpower you have to think things through and come up with a plan! It also means you have the ability to rationally think this out and take the first step to actually finding out what the heck is going on before expending all that energy on heading to dark thoughts.
Another positive thought to hold onto is our bodies are incredibly resilient and designed to heal. You’ve already stopped smoking and that in itself will be a huge first step into healing. Make sure you’re eating healthy fresh fruits and vegetables and protein. They act as building blocks for cell production and repair.

So my best advice to you as a granny, is to go to urgent care and see what’s up with your lungs. You may just need something as simple as a prescription for antibiotics to clear up an infection. But you won’t know until you go!

What do you think? Does that make sense?

Hi @pulengmphelo, For your safety, in this case your mother’s, the forum doesn’t allow posting personal information such as email addresses or phone numbers.

I know you’re scared and very worried that you may have a serious medical condition. You’re convinced this is lung cancer and that you’ll need surgery or cancer treatments and how much it will cost…
But you don’t know that any of this is true. Lung conditions and irritations come from many sources such as smoking, exposure to mold in homes or fungus from soil, to environmental toxins, asthma, tuberculosis and the list goes on…all of these can cause the symptoms that you’re experiencing. The odds of being 18 with lung cancer caused by smoking is low.

Asking strangers to speak with your mom about this condition won’t change the recommendation of seeking medical help. So you need to sit down and talk to your mom or is it your foster mom, about what is happening with your lungs. Maybe she’ll be able to help you come up with a plan to at least be seen by a doctor for a first appointment.

While I believe in the power of prayer, I also feel that God helps those who help themselves. And if you have a medical issue that is alarming you this much, the only way to get an answer is to get a medical opinion.
Before your appointment, write down the symptoms and when they first started and if they’ve worsened over time. You mentioned smoking. Were these tobacco products or do you vape? Are you exposed to mold? Those are questions a doctor will ask you.

As a mom myself, I would move mountains for my child. So have a heart to heart talk with your mom, let her know how terrified you are. Together you can come up with a plan of action and I expect she will make an appointment for you to be seen. Take her with you for moral support.
Let me know what you find out, please. 🙏

I’m proud of you for recognizing this wake-up call to turn your life around. I think most of us have done stupid ‘stuff’ in our teen years and eventually learn from those mistakes. Then, of course, there are people who never get that ah-ha moment and stupidity follows them for a lifetime. Adulting is hard but I think you are going to be great going forward! ☺️

I know you’re scared…I can feel your fear through the computer. I’ve learned over the years that we have 2 things we can control. Attitude and effort. It takes practice to rise above negativity and worst case scenarios. Try to change your thought process from the negative ‘what ifs’. I swear that can drive a person batty. We can what “if this, what if that”, until we no longer know fact from fiction because those thoughts just multiple and take up space in our brains! So try to think positively, like what if everything turns out fine??
I just had a thought that might be helpful in calming your anxiety over the fear of the unknown. There are 22 calming techniques in this article. Read through and see if there might be some that maybe change your focus and bring a sense of peace until you can get in for a checkup.
