Hemoglobin drop after dialysis

Posted by forrests @forrests, Sep 14, 2025

Has anyone had issues with a drop in hemoglobin numbers after dialysis? My sister has been receiving two units of blood on a regular basis following her 3 weekly sessions of dialysis. She has had two colonoscopies and two procedures looking for possible leakage in the digestive tract. No definitive results. This is a very depressing situation for her. Can anyone offer any information regarding this condition?

That indeed must be very distressing to her [and you] to be having this problem of hemoglobin dropping. Has she been able to see an internist. When you say there are no definitive results, what are they saying?

Thank you for responding. She is once again in the hospital and has received 4 units of blood.
By no definitive results, I mean that no leakage of blood has been found during previous tests. As of this morning, the hospital has put her in quarantine. The doctors have brought in a hemotoligist and have mentioned looking into blood marrow.

After swallowing a capsule camera, a blood leakage was found in the area where the small intestine and large intestine meet. In addition, she has been diagnosed with Arteriovenous Malformations or AVM. So now we have the problem identified. Hopefully it's all good going forward.
