Hearing voices

Posted by cndydj @cndydj, Apr 10, 2019

I have a friend whose hearing voices. He believes that someone's in planted an EEG device in his brain stem or in his body somewhere. He believes his brother or several other people are involved in doing this, and that through this device they're able to see what he's doing hear what he's doing and talk to him. I don't know what to do for him he's 32 and this started approximately a year ago any suggestions thank you

@cndydj- Welcome. You friend needs immediate help. Please get him/her to the ER. Can you do this?

@cndydj - that is challenging your 32-year-old friend has started hearing voices for the last year. I agree with the others that immediate medical help for your friend would be appropriate [or, if unwilling, National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) helpline may have other ideas and resources for you, 1-800-950-NAMI (6264)].

I'd also like to bring into this conversation, for their input on how to help your friend, some additional Connect members like @jakedduck1 @falon @shmoo @piglit @cathy615 @wendybarker @teri15 @parus.

What would you say is your biggest concern for your friend presently, @cndydj?

He sounds paranoid and definitely delusional. Like a friend of mine with Paranoid Schizophrenia. Has anyone asked him if the voices he hears are from inside or outside his head? Does he fail to give direct answers to direct questions? Does he talk to himself? My cousins ex-mental health psychiatrist claimed he was Schizophrenic which I proved was not the case, experts at Stanford, UCSF as well as two psychiatrists in private practice agreed he was not. Each psychiatrist asked him that question. However I don’t know if that was the deciding factor. I suggested he had some psychosis and OCD which every doctor agreed with except the Mental Health physician. California’s Mental Health system is so over overwhelmed the doctors don’t have enough time to throughly evaluate each patient. I’d suggest he see his primary doc, psychologist or psychiatrist. If necessary his primary will refer him.
Best of luck,
Jake
