Can hearing loss be temporary? I had head surgery
I had surgery to fix a twitching eye and mouth in Dec. 2018. After surgery I realized I couldn't hear in my right ear. I can't hear voices in that ear but I can hear a few high pitched sounds. My Dr. thinks that I might regain hearing in a year or so. His thoughts are that a blood vessel was stretched and I lost blood to some area that helped with hearing or that I had a TIA. I don't feel as balanced anymore but have resumed Zumba (no fast twirling as a precaution). I have a relative who got shingles and lost his hearing and it returned. Another person thought he had Menieres (lost hearing in one ear) and it did get better. He thought that a recommendation of eating a very low salt intake did the trick. I'm not so sure about that. I haven't seen any discussions about people who lost hearing and it returned. Meanwhile I am overwhelmed by crowded, noisy areas and have to really concentrate to hear one person with my good ear towards them. Would a cross over hearing aide help? If my hearing returned would it be worth having one for just a little while (and what about costs?).

I think your questions are best answered by a hearing specialist or ENT specialist. I'd like to bring in fellow members @judymartin @julieo4 @katherinebouton @mike55124 and @nurseheadakes into this discussion. They always have wise words of experience.
Nancyruth, have you consulted an audiologist or ENT specialist? Did you have reduced hearing before your surgery in December?
Yes I had both - in January and April. I had no reduced hearing before surgery. Audiologist has hope that things might improve. ENT thinks it is probably permanent..
During my loud Zumba class and other loud events I have been wearing protective audiologist made plugs for 3 years.
Sometimes my affected ear feels really stuffed and other times not so much.
Hi I have had hearing loss in my right ear scene I was 5. Over the years it got even worst. So I depended on my left ear, but I started losing hearing in that ear to. I got where I would keep away form my friends and family. So I went to a ENT here in Brunswick and he sent me to the ENT at Mayo. I have had 6 surgery's on my ears over the years and hearing loss got worst. But I had the BAHA surgery on my right ear done last month.
Now they strapped the hearing aid to the back of my head and for the first time in many years I was able to hear. It was the greatest thing to happen to me,
wow I'm now a happy man. Going to have the left ear done next month. The BAHA is helping me hear I hope it will help others. I hope your hear will return but if not you may want to check out the BAHA if your hear don't return. But check with an ENT and see if it can help you. Will pray
I have had mild hearing loss (low frequency) in one ear for years. Over the past few years (now 70 years old) I have had some worsening of hearing for high and low frequency in both ears. However, this year my hearing has been significantly reduced in both ears. Getting new hearing aids with lots of amplification for different settings. Is this typical for Meniere's?
