healing from open prostatectomy?

Posted by Rocky @gerald01, 5 days ago

Next month I am scheduled to have an open prostatectomy. From your experience what has been your experience with healing and recovery? What have you discovered that has been helpful either in preparing for surgery or afterwards that promote healing?

Thank you for your response. Greatly appreciated. Also thanks for the transparent sharing of some post operation issues you had. I especially appreciate your “no regrets.” you are kind to share. Thanks!

@gerald01 HI Gerald, I should also tell you that my doc saved the nerve bundle that are for stimulating an orgasm. He was also very careful so that I don't have any inconvenience, and never had to this day had to use pads or diapers.Hopefully your doc is as experienced as my doc was. He was one of top docs for prostatectomy. He has done over 11 thousand of them. Just do your homework before you go with your doc. Make sure he has the experience you need. That's how I found Dr. Catalona. He and Dr. Walsh for John's Hopkins are the doctors that came up with the PSA blood test.

@frankn "I should also tell you that my doc saved the nerve bundle that are for stimulating an orgasm."

Technically the nerves are there to create the restriction of blood flow required for an erection.

You can have orgasms without an erection (& without the nerve bundle).
