Headache above left ear
I have been getting a headache off and on ( it a shooting pain more of a dull ache) about 1 inch above my left ear and about 1 inch behind it. My eyesight in that eye only got worse recently (I had lasik about 27 years ago). Sometimes it extends to my forehead area but not always. And it’s usually afternoons. And yes I do read a lot - no longer use reading glasses because it seems that the two eyes are balancing each other out. But the headache bugs me! Any ideas?

Hello . . for me, ECH 6 years, always spring time, always behind right eye, always early evening and during the night. Take sumitriptan (injections, later inhaler: UHC covered mine) when it gets so I can't stand it. Allowed two doses in 24 hours, then if I have had my two, off to the ER where a four med cocktail stops it.
Shooting pains? Definitely. Dull headache, not so often. . Takes about 4 minutes before it ramps up to full blown. Mine are always early evening. Right after a glass of wine which I now dearly miss. Neuro said alcohol definitely a probably factor in causation. Have you noticed dietary issues? I.E. ie alcohol? Using any O2? It has been great for me, and often allows me not to take sumitriptan, which is hard on the body. (thought it DOES definitely knock out the headache.) Slow breathing, deep breaths in and out - for, sorry, about an hour will often block it becoming a full blown headache.
But I know they are coming when spring arrives. So I get my O2 concentrator ready and have sumitrip on hand and wait for them to begin.
Definitely sounds like occipital neurology. I’ve had it for years. Please see a neurologist. In the meantime, I’ve found I can manage with ice packs and Tylenol. Good luck!
