The decision to quit smoking is a very personal one. Everyone has his or her own reason that helps start the journey to quit smoking. The diagnosis of a serious illness or chronic condition, like cancer, a heart condition, lung condition, diabetes, might be one reason to quit smoking as part of treatment and recovery.

Yes. I have quitted smoking for last twelve years but as substitute I started taking tobacco in a licking form put into mouth under lips for several times a day. I now want to quit tobacco but can't stop this unhealthy bad habit.

I made a decision that I would quit after my step granddaughter stated that her child could not be around anyone who smoked. It was easy for me after that. Stopping is something that you have to make a commitment to yourself that you are going to. You begin by counting each day that you have not had a cigarette. I also go very busy with my hands doing crafts and therefore fixed that park of the desire. I did gain a few pounds at first but then tapered off. It has been 25 years and I am now sickened by the smell. Karma?

3 Reactions@contentandwell A stranger online suggested I try ginger. He knew what he was talking about. Cause I tried a few things. It worked the best when you want to go cold turkey.

2 Reactions@iandunlop I thought I was doing well with my exercise — about 4 - 5 days a week of water aerobics, riding my recumbent bike about a half hour(about 6 miles) 5 - 6 days a week, and going to the gym at my health club. So far I only do the gym about 2 days a week, I hate it.

2 Reactions@colleenyoung I went it alone, but I have to be honest, I had a huge motivation - I was pregnant. I always said if I got pregnant I would give it up, and I did. I have never had another cigarette. When my son was young he used to proudly take credit for my giving it up, since I was pregnant with him.

2 Reactions@colleenyoung When a person smokes or a least with me there is a burning sensation everytime you inhale the smoke from a cigarette. Ginger is very strong and gives me a similar burning sensation in my mouth. Which distracts me from having a cigarette and the urge to really smoke fades away. Ginger has worked the best out of everything else I have tried.
