Hello @jkoc2612, I'm sorry to hear you were not able to get an appointment with neurology at Mayo Clinic Jacksonville Campus. I know that has to be disappointing. Another treatment you might want to consider is Myofascial Release Therapy. There is a discussion on the topic started by @jenniferhunter.

Have any of your doctors mentioned sciatica as a possible diagnosis? Have you thought about seeking help at a teaching hospital in your area?

have you had an X-ray? I did and in addition to diabetes2 and possibly diabetic neuropathy sore on foot not healing completely, I have significant arthritis in hips referred to orthopedic dr waiting a long time before seeing him. I have to have help doing many things.

It is not sciatica. I do not have pain. I have mostly tightness & numbness. Have had the EMG test but there’s no nerve involvement. Only d/x I have is that numbness may emanate from my back since I’ve been d/x with spinal stenosis, scoliosis & spondelothesis (sp?) but I don’t have back pain. Back surgery was suggested, if you can believe that, but was told my leg numbness would not be reversed.
I will look into treatment you mentioned. MUSC is a teaching hospital but they’re not accepting patients. I am now looking into a neurologist affiliated with Hilton head hospital. I believe this is a side effect from chemo for breast cancer. My fear is that I’m starting to feel numbness on my right side. I use a cane now.

Have had X-rays, MRIs. Have seen a neurologist, orthopedic surgeon and also got a 2nd opinion all to no avail.

The suggestion to try the myofascial release therapy is a good one, in my opinion. I would avoid back surgery except in extreme circumstances. MRT has helped me, and I have multiple spinal issues. Acupuncture might also be considered but only if you find a very experienced practitioner with a lot of positive patient reviews.

a trick I learned get a dr to refer you to MUSC teaching hospital. better chance of getting in. worked for me through an er visit I asked for a referral to a specific dr and got in.

So what does MUSC stand for? Need to provide context/explanation for better transmission of what you are conveying in your post.

I don't have an answer for you, but my spouse is having the same issue. She's gotten the EMG test and found nothing. They keep telling her it is due to a narrowing of her cervical spine "cervical spinal stenosis".

She's had physical therapy without any resolutions. However, she's found a Massage Therapist which does what they call Zen Bodytherapy and Zen Triggerpoint. It has been somewhat successful. Don't be discouraged by the Zen in the word, it's just body manipulation which is several sessions. What they work on is slowly working on all the scar tissue (which can be created by simply having the muscle stressed and it protects itself), doing some fascia work. Please know this isn't a relaxing massage, it can be very painful. So going to get a deep tissue massage isn't the same as this, not even close. In fact, a deep tissue massage may cause more issues than not.

In addition, the physical therapist suggested she use those hiking poles (both of them) while walking to provide support on both ends.

Again, this isn't a solution but maybe it brings you some relief. I see this was from 2024, so perhaps you have already gotten a solution.
