Have Lichen Sclerosis-Any able to use a water flosser?

Posted by fdixon63 @fdixon63, 2 days ago

I've tried a few water picks/water flossers over the years to keep my gums in the best health possible. What I experienced is that the "blasts" of water is soooo strong that I can't use them--no matter the setting. It has been several years since I tried to use one and maybe there have been some improvements. Is there anyone who has found a product that can be used to help with LP. I think I would prefer the rechargeable hand held ones. Thanks.

I have lichen also and I use a water pick everyday.
Try different heads until you fine one that works for you, also start on low pressure.
Be careful don’t hit your gums but the space between your teeth. You will get a lot of junk out.
Your teeth will get clean and so will your gums.
Good luck.

Hi minnesota10. As I indicated, I've tried different brands and used the most gentle water jet possible. I can't just keep going out and buying more and more devices that don't suit my particular gum tissue. Would you please share what brand and setting you're using? Thanks.

Water pick lowest setting. I use the head with a little brush on top.
My derm doctor told me to use Tom’s children strawberry flavored, fluoride free only.
It don’t bubble up in the mouth much as you don’t have egg whites in it I think.
It has gotten better for me using the children’s toothpaste,
I hope that helps.

Yikes, I just noticed that I put Lichen Sclerosis in the topic line rather than Oral Lichen Planus.

Now back to minnesota10 response. I feel like I'm being a "pain" now, but is this water pick what they call a counter top one or a portable?? I looked through different ones last night until my eyes hurt. There are sooo many.

I have tried children's toothpaste and I think they are better for OLP. Thanks.
