Have had the hiccups for three years. Very little, if any relief.

I’ve had the hiccups for three years been to every doctor possible. No relief tried gabapentin, Lyrica, and baclofen still no relief. Any suggestions? Have Ron ever test possible esophagus, MRI, ENT and others. Interrupts my sleep, and my eating, and my daily function of life.

@gepro, for most people, hiccups are an occasional nuisance. But long-term hiccups like you describe can really erode one's quality of life.

According to this article from Mayo Clinic https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/hiccups/symptoms-causes/syc-20352613
"Issues that may cause hiccups to last more than 48 hours include nerve damage or irritation, central nervous system disorders, metabolic issues, and certain drug and alcohol problems."

For some people, drugs like chemotherapy can cause disruptive hiccups. For others it can be nerve damage like damage to the phrenic nerve. You sound like you've been to many specialists to try and figure out the cause. Were possible nerve damage, metabolic issues and drug causes all ruled out?

Had a nerve block on the left side little or no effect on the hiccups or anything else. I’ve tried gabapentin Lyrica and now baclofen no help there either have had upper G.I. and lower G.I. test. They seem to say they can’t find anything looking for a G.I. doctor that thinks outside the box I still feel like it has something to do with that area, it’s so frustrating because no one listens

I have same issues but not hiccups, non stop 1000’s of deep wet belching . Churning gut and intestines. Nausea.
Had every test , 6 Gastro Dr’s , 6 diagnoses, tried everything holistic, RX , , diets , supplements you name it . 10 yrs and I’m getting worse .
I’ve yet to find a Dr. that thinks outside box . Just went to FM Dr too and did extensive bloodwork and stool samples , h pylori testing did Keto diet .
Nothing helps .
I live on Ultra Pepto.
My diet is small and clean . Doesn’t matter , everything blows up in me .
It’s so depressing. I understand your frustration. Hope you find someone to help .
