Has anyone’s MRI biopsy been canceled when doc couldn’t ’t find spot?
I was diagnosed with stage 1 IDC in right breast in Dec 2022. Lumpectomy and a randomized trial that had me forego radiation, so just AI for 5 years.
Same time left breast biopsy showed radial scar and ALH. Surgery to remove scar. ALH entirely removed with biopsy. Mammogram and ultrasound didn’t pick up IDC or ALH, only seen with MRI.
Now Dec 2024 MRI shows suspicious area in left breast new since June 2024. Sent for MRI biopsy. Told they can’t find the suspicious area now and I should come back for another scan in 6 months.
It’s nerve racking. Just curious if anyone else has had a similar experience. Thanks!

I didn’t have this happen but my Dr told me it could happen. She said the breast tissue is always changing.
I had spot on MRI.
With US could not find that spot, but found another that they bx.
Then went back and had MRI guided bx of original spot.
Hope that helps.
Had something similar just happen. IDC in left breast and another suspicious spot picked up on initial MRI. Was scheduled for MRI biopsy and was told they could no longer see it the day of the procedure so biopsy was canceled. Had lumpectomy for IDC with Sentinal Node Biopsy (no cancer spread) two weeks ago. I was also told by the Dr, that a number of things can cause the abnormality in MRI scans and scheduled another for 6 months.
Yes, that happened to me about 12 years ago. I was on my stomach and already for the MRI Biopsy and the radiologist said he could not locate the area. They stopped and didn't follow through with the MRI but they did charge me for it. I have very dense breasts, and I have confounded doctors for most of my life and have had many biopsies. I wasn't actually diagnosed with breast cancer until 2020 and 2024.
I agree that is so nerve racking. You can't help but think they may have missed something very serious. But there is a good chance that it is not serious.
Thank you!
Yes, I’m grateful just to hear what others have experienced. Thank you!
Me too with dense breasts. I had at least 3 biopsies over the years well before being diagnosed. Most of the time I manage not to think about it and just be grateful that I’m healthy overall. Just every now and then that worry springs up. Thank you for sharing your experience.
Thank you for sharing your experience. I hope you’re doing well after your lumpectomy. So happy for you that there wasn’t any spread of the cancer.
