Has anyone tried Algecal?
I am 83 year old recently Dx with osteoporosis. My score puts me on a high risk form hip fracture. The endocrinologist, who is very laid back, told me to take calcium and almond milk that has 50% more calcium. Also reduced my thyroid meds from 75mg to 50mg I weigh 130 lbs and try to walk at least 2 miles a day. In my yearly checkup about 6 months ago I decided to try Fosamax 35 mg a week. I do not do well with any medications.. I am also doing a YouTube video called Strong Women Strong Bones 2 times a week. Ok it’s about an hour long but I enjoy it..using weights to strength muscles and bones. Explained that weight bearing exercises is most beneficial for osteoporosis. The internet is filled with osteoporosis products. I decided to try an algercal supplement as a calcium.( Without strontium as per dr). I will say I have not broken a nail since taking it and they seem to be growing faster..good sign? I am thinking of adding goat milk powder and collagen…Any one tried these? Thank you for your you listening and replies❤️

I have the supplements but have not started them. I do know for many it works. They have a fb community which I read all the time. I also go to Osteostrong weekly and love it!!

2 ReactionsI have been taking Algecal collagen powder with Fortibone and Fortigel for 4 months. While I do not have OP, I do have DDD in my spine which causes mostly lumbar pain and stiffness. I have found since taking the supplement I have more spine flexibility which reduces the back pain. This flexibility allows me to participate in more exercise which also improves the pain. I am grateful for small gains if that is all I am able to obtain. I plan to continue the supplement for life as I do not wish to develop OP. Good luck on your health journey.

2 ReactionsFor years I took a calcium supplement similar to AlgaeCal, sourced from algae, called New Chapter Bone Strength. Recently I started taking Seen Calcium Chews, which are 100% food based. Each chew contains 500mg calcium, 400IU Vitamin D, plus small amounts of phosphorus and magnesium. The ingredients are organic dates, milk minerals, almonds, milk protein and organic Vitamin D2 mushroom powder. The recommended dose is 1 chew a day, so I reduced my New Chapter calcium to 1/2 dose a day.
Seen hews are available to purchase from their website: https://www.seennutrition.com/
They are kind of expensive. 30 chews cost $35.00 or $29.75 on auto delivery. 90 chews cost $105.00 or $89.25 on auto delivery.
I also take AlgaeCal collagen with Fortibone every day in a fruit smoothie with some protein powder.

1 ReactionI thought u couldn’t take magnesium with calcium because it cancels out the calcium absorption.
Correct me if I’m wrong
Thank u
@rose140 If you are referring to the Seen Calcium Chews, the amount of magnesium they contain is minimal, 40mg which is only 10% of the recommended daily value. I did some research and found that the magnesium comes from the almonds, which are a natural source of this mineral.
@daisy17
Thank you so much
