Has anyone here been plagued with cheilitis?

Has anyone here been plagued with schelitus? Rash surrounding the lips, extremely dry lips with peeling skin. It can be caused by something you eat, something you put on your skin, toothpaste with certain ingredients, etc. I've broken out twice in the last 12 months and never know what causes it for sure. Dermatologists have given me these items to look for. Any other thoughts? Thanks

Welcome @sharonann. I have to admit I had never heard the term cheilitis before your post. Check out this extensive online resource from DermNet NZ http://dermnetnz.org/site-age-specific/cheilitis.html They list 3 main categories of causes:
- infection or skin condition
- allergy, toxin, medication or injury
- nutritional deficiency

Further conditions are listed in these 3 categories. Has something similar led to each of the breakouts that you've had so far? What did you do to relief the chapping, peeling and inflammation?

Yes, it's happened about 3xs. I noticed after eating salty foods, and
possibly foods that might contain msg (broke out after eating at a Chinese
restuarant-very salty beef/broccoli dish, I broke out. I just kept the
area clean as possible and put Vaseline on frequently...it would slowly go
away. Really embarrassing...and slow to recover. But I'm hoping I have a
handle on what causes it for me. It's been months now.

Thank you for asking.
