Has anyone had severe side effects after receiving the shingles vaccin

Posted by seven11vaxhurtme @seven11vaxhurtme, Jan 25 3:05am

After experiencing shingles several times in my life I decided to get the shingles vaccine last year in 2024. 5 months afterwards I was diagnosed with shingles on the inside of my body in the mid bladder area with pain wrapping around my left side to my back. I am currently diagnosed with PHN the aftermath of shingles. I did some research and found its a low percentage side effect from the vaccine. I am in tormenting pain and there is no cure just meds with no end in site.

Welcome @kelimiller50, I only had a sore arm for a day or so after my shingles vaccine but then I already had neuropathy before I got the vaccine. Sorry that your doctor brushed you off. Sudden numbness is listed a side effect with the incidence not known - Shingrix Side Effects: Common, Severe, Long Term: https://www.drugs.com/sfx/shingrix-side-effects.html.

Have you reported the vaccine side effects? - https://vaers.hhs.gov/

I got the Shingles vaccine on May 12, 2025 and immediately started having numbness in both legs and feet. It is 3 months later and it has not gotten better at all. It is called neuropathy and the Doctor has just brushed it off as old age? I am 60

I had the vaccine shot on October 2, 2025. In the last three weeks, I've experienced extreme pain in my left shoulder and deltoid. At times, the pain is severe (8 on a 10 point scale). In the last week, I've been awakened in the middle of the night by extreme throbbing and pain in my left shoulder and upper arm. My range of motion is only 50% of my right side. In all, it's impacting my sleep and daily functioning. I started to use Aspercreme with Lodocaine today, but wonder if something more serious is taking place. I've never had such a reaction to a vaccine in my life (including the covid vaccine). Suggestions? Recommendations? Thanks.

You poor thing. I just got my first vaccine yesterday. I already have peripheral neuropathy and fibromyalgia since I was 31. I’m 66 now and was doing ok until this morning. I can barely move.
I’m curious whether you got the second dose?
The Covid vaccines and the pneumonia vaccine did the same thing to me I’m sure because of my existing inflammation. I hope you’re feeling better now.

@azsusie66 Thank you for piping in with your experience! I've had fibro since I was 30 and I'm now 60. My doctor wants me to get the Shingles vax, but I am nervous about the added pain etc. with already having a fibro and an autoimmune condition (Hashimoto's disease). You said you could barely move after getting the Shingles vax- any other side effects I should think about? I need to get the pneumonia vac too and was almost going to do both at the same time, but think that would be a bad idea considering lol. Please fill me in with more details! Thank you!

what is the percentage?

In the medical community, I've seen 15% descibed as rare

@fluffy128 Do not get the shingles vaccine if you have any neurological disease; it says right below the ads on Tv there is a higher rate of Guillain Barre syndrome (GBS) if you take this shot! Your doctor will tell you.

I did not get the shot but shingles itself that followed my sciatic nerve to my spine. And yes, I have permanent pain that follows that track line. One of my doctors prescribe Diflanec pain ointment that contains aspirin. I find this ointment eases my pain.
