Has anyone had Prostate Artery Embolization?

Does anyone had the procedure for enlarged prostate as alternative to HoLep or Aquablation? It seems to have minimal side effects and supposedly very effective.

I had an embolization over a year ago and it didn't take. So I had a Holep six months later and have been pleased by the results.

Was there a specific reason it did not take? Was the procedure “easier” than HoLep regarding recuperation?

I had a PAE 4 months ago prior to starting prostate IMRT radiation treatment. I found the procedure to have been easy to experience. My urinary function was very good prior to the radiation.

I don't think it works with larger prostates. I read somewhere it only shrinks the prostate between 20 and 40% . So 30% is average. If you feel that would be meaningful to you then it might work in your case.

No idea why PAE didn't "take." I went to another doctor in NYC to perform the HoLEP. Of course I was disappointed to lose external ejaculations, but no problems urinating.

I think most urologists recommend HoLEP esp for large prostate sizes. It is a surgical procedure that they perform. It appears to be highly durable, lasting many years, but not without some drawbacks, such as anejaculation. PAH is not done by urologists and probably one reason they don’t recommend it. They are performed by interventional radiologists. It appears to be newer, has few side effects, works in large prostates but may not be as durable in the long term. This is why I was asking for experiences with the procedure.
