Has anyone had Pres disease

Posted by mary @maf2017, 2 days ago

I had pres disease 4 years ago and was hospitalized for 15 days. I did not know what happened and did not know where I was.
The worst was that things were happening to me and it was so real. I was restrained and had a net over the hospital bed. I cannot get over it and feel frozen. Still have horrible nightmares and I scream and try to get out of bed to escape. I have not been able to talk to anyone about this in depth and not sure I do. I am 76 years old and married with a very compassionate husband. I just don't know how to move forward. It was severe and the Doctor told my husband and daughter if I had not gotten to the hospital when I did I would have slipped into a coma and died.
Just wanted to know if anyone else experienced this.
Thank you

It was a traumatizing experience, resulting in ptsd. There may be relief in therapy, emdr, meditation/medication. Just saying.

Hello @maf2017 wow that is scary, and it sounds like @shmerdloff is right about the PTSD. I can’t imagine that I would not have nightmares from this as well. I know it is hard to internalize that all of those restraints were to keep you safe from falling etc.
This was a possible side effect of the chemo I was given so I read a lot about it. Boy, our brain sure can play tricks on us, these are not harmless pranks. Brain swelling is serious business, and you are very lucky. I bet your husband and daughter were terrified.
A therapist might be able to help you take the fear out of what happened.
Do you have the ability to see a therapist?

I do take anti anxiety medication and a mood lifter.
My problem is that I am unable to get the words to come out of my mouth, they stay in my head. Don't know why I can't verbalized it.
My primary care provider has a friend who has delt this and I have had her number to er 2 years.

@mmwagner46
It is when swelling occurs in the brain, it mimics a stroke.
You think things are happening that are not. I had a home nurse for 6 weeks and physical therapist for 6 months. My brain does not function like it used to. You forgot things and it is like starting over on things. It also changes what you used to like , like coffee, can't drink it anymore, and I never drank soda now I start my day with a cherry coke lol
Thank you
