has anyone had experience taking Xarelto with ckd?

I have been diagnosed with ckd level 3a. I have been taking Xarelto for Afib. I notice that the package note has a warning that doctors should be notified when when these are combined. Has anyone had experience with this combination?

@hump068 Several years ago, I had a DVT and my PCP put me on Xarelto for a short period of time as this is a blood thinner, and for me, this was absolutely necessary to avoid clotting. Dosage will play an important part so checking with your physician and following up with labs are quite important. I was only on the medication for 3 months. Bleeding is a risk so there may be a lower dose or another medication that may be more suitable as well. Your cardiologist can guide you with this. Afib can be severe or moderate, and depending upon that severity, your cardiologist will discuss which blood thinner medication will work well for you for the long term as those with CKD can be affected. If you have a history of high blood pressure or ulcers, bleeding can be a risk factor. Personally, I had no issues after 3 months.

Yes, I am on Xeralto for the rest of my life. I have Polycystic Kidney disease and will have a transplant in 2 years. Since I had a cardiac ablation for Wolfs-Parkinson-White back in 2000 and a second ablation in 2023, my cardiologist put me on Xeralto to prevent stroke. At first, some bruising but not much now. I trust my cardiologist and my nephrologist as they are in agreement Xeralto is beneficial for me. If you’re having issues, talk to your doctor about it.

Thanks for your reply. We had not discussed if my Afib is severe or moderate.

@hump068 My brother is on blood thinner medication for the long term. He does not have CKD. I have a friend who had 1 episode of Afib 9 years ago and took Xarelto briefly. She does not have CKD. Your cardiologist is the best source of precribing for those with Afib that have other disease(s) associated with it. This may be the time where labs are quite important for you and to both your cardiologist and nephrologist.

I have CKD and Afib, and have been on Eliquis for several years with no problems or side effects.
I am considering having the Watchman procedure which will eliminate the need for Eliqius.
