Has anyone had diarrhea with radiation?
Has anyone in the Forum had RT to their lymph node basin only and then experienced diarrhea during treatment? How did you handle it?
I’ve just completed my 15th VMAT IMRT treatment to my lymph node basin only. I started experiencing diarrhea two days after the 14th treatment and hours after the 15th treatment. My oncologist doesn’t believe that it’s connected to the radiation because he’s avoiding the bowel and previously treated prostate bed.

Thanks Surf, it sure couldn't hurt. So tired of this and willing to try anything within reason. It can be life altering.
@scruffy1 How long did you take lomotil? Opioids are really tough on my digestive system
@jime51 I can't recall. I was also taking pro-and prebiotics. I just took them until I no longer needed them, probably a few days. It's difficult to tell what drug was doing what because I also take oxycodone for chronic, sometimes severe, back pain. Yes, opioids (especially 2 kinds) make it difficult to manage digestion but it's better than suffering from pain 24/7.

3 ReactionsI had 42 x radiotherapy coming up to 2 years ago. I feel I am going to be on a long journey managing my bowel. The thing is I have phases when I think things are normal and then the unpredictability returns. So, I take pro biotics daily and use immodium as necessary. It is what it is and the journey continues. That said, it seems the side effect of diarrhoea can be vary quite widely from patient to patient. Everything crossed really. 😉 Good luck!
Hi,
If you have diarrhea on a repeatable basis after your radiation treatments and not at other times I would think it’s related to your radiation treatments. Makes sense doesn't it? If it’s not that repeatable then it could be another medication your on. Diarrhea is fairly common with radiation treatments.

@clevelandguy I would think the better question is, who is the lucky guy that didn't have it? lol 15 months with it and can't leave home in the morning until BM. Learned the hard way.
