Has anyone had a knee joint replacement?
I have osteoarthritis in both knees, I’m a 69 year old woman. I do water aerobics most days, garden and cut my grass.
The Dr. compared the knee joint replacement to having a crown put on your tooth. I was hoping to find someone who has had this done. Surgery is scheduled for August 22.

@therealboz Im almost 3 years after knee replacement, I have numbness and a feeling like a rope is wrapped around my ankle and it is getting worse, waking me up at night
@lbarth not everyone is so lucky
@aguss
I think you are both wrong. Recovery after a TKR varies widely and is similar to what is shown on a bell curve. There are a few outliers on both ends and most folks end up in the middle. Revisions follow a similar pattern.
There are outliers on the no pain end and outliers on the very painful end with most somewhere between those ends. Forums such as this tend to have more negative reports because that is what tended to drive them here. Both are individually legitimate but don't necessarily mean they apply to everyone.

2 Reactions@Albarth, I agree with your assessment. I had a TKR in April and everything was going well for three weeks and then a wrong step led to my bursa bursting which caused massive swelling in the TKR knee. After draining the knee and testing for infection, which was negative, the surgeon sewed the Bursa up in May and it has been extremely challenging since. I am seven months post 2nd operation and still experiencing knee, calf and foot numbness with pain. I am now also experiencing low back pain which I contribute to my gait change. My surgeon tells me most of what I am experiencing will taper off in due time. The surgeon suggested the foot numbness could be coming from my back. I guess time will tell on everything.
