Has anyone had a knee joint replacement?

Posted by suzzflwr1 @suzzflwr1, Jun 19, 2024

I have osteoarthritis in both knees, I’m a 69 year old woman. I do water aerobics most days, garden and cut my grass.
The Dr. compared the knee joint replacement to having a crown put on your tooth. I was hoping to find someone who has had this done. Surgery is scheduled for August 22.

Has anyone had nerve damage after knee replacement? If so, what were your symptoms?

I had TKR last July and Tk revision in February. I took no opioids, they do nothing for pain for me. I took Tylenol and meloxicam. Had full ROM in a week in both knees. Was also doing stairs the first week. Don’t listen to any horror stories.

I think you are both wrong. Recovery after a TKR varies widely and is similar to what is shown on a bell curve. There are a few outliers on both ends and most folks end up in the middle. Revisions follow a similar pattern.

There are outliers on the no pain end and outliers on the very painful end with most somewhere between those ends. Forums such as this tend to have more negative reports because that is what tended to drive them here. Both are individually legitimate but don't necessarily mean they apply to everyone.

@Albarth, I agree with your assessment. I had a TKR in April and everything was going well for three weeks and then a wrong step led to my bursa bursting which caused massive swelling in the TKR knee. After draining the knee and testing for infection, which was negative, the surgeon sewed the Bursa up in May and it has been extremely challenging since. I am seven months post 2nd operation and still experiencing knee, calf and foot numbness with pain. I am now also experiencing low back pain which I contribute to my gait change. My surgeon tells me most of what I am experiencing will taper off in due time. The surgeon suggested the foot numbness could be coming from my back. I guess time will tell on everything.
