Has anyone had 2 reverse shoulder replacements on the same shoulder?
I would like to know if there is a reason why I should hold off on my first reverse shoulder replacement (I’m 66 and in a fair amount of pain), I understand they last 10-15 years, so when it’s time to replace again, are there other things to consider at that time?

Hi! I had a TSR (chose the total shoulder replacement because it allowed the most range of motion) in February 2025. All went well and I had good range of motion and I was progressing strength-wise.
6 weeks later, I stepped onto a tilt trailer, and it tilted me off. I put out my right hand to break the fall and completely ruined the new shoulder. Had to wait 3 months to have the TSR removed and the RSR (reverse) put in its place. At 8 months, I feel I am doing well. NO PT as I am small-boned and new shoulder was very fragile. I did exercises at home. My only concern is I’ll never put my right had behind my back. I also had hand surgery 4 weeks after the second replacement. I need TSR on left arm as it is very arthritic and keeps me awake. I’m not ready to venture into that yet.

Thanks for the info, as I understand it, I’m not a candidate for total replacement, because there is nothing left of my rotator cuff. I know there will be limitations, but I believe I’m ready for that.

There was nothing left of mine after the fall. And it’s good to know the limitations in advance. You should be fine. I’m 67 and I’m doing very well. Best of luck to you!!!
Thank you!
