Has Anyone Experienced Worsening Pain After PT for Locked Muscles?

Posted by marcd2k @marcd2k, Aug 15 12:43pm

Hello everyone,
I have been dealing with multiple issues from low back pain and surgery, to right side flank and oblique muscles that do not release while sitting, standing, or walking. My only relief from the pain this causes is laying on my back. But I am getting tired of being in bed most of the day, every day now.

I am at my third PT office this year, and after my two sessions this past week (Mon and Wed), the pain in my right flank / oblique muscles has gotten worse. The Monday appointment is when a therapist was digging into my flank muscles, pressing on points to try to get the muscle to release. The muscles never released, and the next day (Tuesday), I could barley walk around the house without so much pain, I had to keep laying down.

I went Wednesday for my third total session, and a different therapist started pressing on the flank muscles, but it was too painful, and he stopped to work on other areas instead.

This is now Saturday morning, and I haven't been able to stay on my feet for more than 30 minutes, as the pain gets intense, and it's back to bed. Has anyone heard of this, or had it happen, where PT made their situation worse? If so, what was done to get around this?

Thank you, have a great weekend!

Stiff knee and pain knee.locked. I seem to have more pain after PT and I’m thinking of no returning any suggestions?

I have the same problem. It Started with spinal stenosis, but after three years of epidurals, PT and meds, I’m in no better condition than I was in the beginning. My leg muscles refuse to loosen up and the pain is so intense the day after PT that I question wether or not I should even bother.

@ruthblaze Hello Ruth, I cannot tell you not to go to your PT sessions, but I am wondering myself if I should continue. I am going to call the owner of the office I go to for PT on Monday morning. I met him a little over a week ago when he worked on my side muscles, and unfortunately, this is when my pain started getting worse after my sessions. For three sessions in a row now my pain is worse the next day, and it does not calm down over the course of a week. I am going to ask him if there is anything they can change for how my treatments are going, because I cannot keep having worse and worse pain after each session.
