Has anyone experienced severe insomnia with Evenity?

Struggling to find an osteoporosis drug I can tolerate...this felt like my last hope, but after first injection, I literally could not enter any deep restful stages of sleep. Went on for nearly 30 days. Felt like I was going crazy, could not drive or work. Trying to figure out if it were the drug or something else, if I should give it another try.

I am awake every 3 hrs but I related it to the pain caused by Evenity. I too must finish my course. I only have 2 to go. Good luck.

I just had my 4th injection today. Terrible headaches and low energy. My fitness watch shows I've had ZERO to 30 minutes of deep sleep each night. I'm getting hours of light or REM sleep. Sadly, only in Deep Sleep does the body repair itself. Waaah.

I am 50 (almost 51) and completed my 12 months of Evenity infusions at the end of October. I had a post treatment bone density scan earlier this week and had significant improvement! 🙂 My lowest/worst T score was -3 prior to treatment and now that score is -2.3. That takes me out of osteoporosis into osteopenia. My other scores are almost within normal range! I just had the IV reclast yesterday so will have a DXA scan in a year to see the progress. I’m am so thankful and happy! I just wanted everyone to know there ARE positive results if you can push through minor side effects. For me, the worst part was fatigue, an increase in headaches, and pain and swelling at injection sites (back of arms) which honestly was the worst of all. It made my arms very sore but only at the injection site where it would swell and make a hard knot. Only lasted 24 hours and improved after the first 6 months. But, this plus the headaches were all easily treated with Ex St Tylenol or Advil if you can take that. It was worth it to me to stay the course. The thought of a future hip or lower back fracture seemed far worse to me than my side effects. I hope this is helpful for some. Blessings!

It's rough. My osteoporosis specialist here said no one of her patients had had side effects like that, or any for that matter. First, I don't believe it..many women just tough it out and don't report. Second, just because a doctor doesn't see something in THEIR set of patients, they think that is how it is everywhere. But if a doctor isn't open minded enough to realize their little corner of the world is not the world entirely, or isn't willing to discuss alternatives with you, it's best to go elsewhere for care. I would report your side effects to the drug company that makes Evenity too...they need to know what people are experiencing.

@tkdesign I agree 100% that one doctor should not make a blanket statement. I love your suggestion of reporting the side effects to Evenity manufacturer. I can sleep, thanks to my incredible night-time cocktail of supplements to promote sleepiness, but my Fitness Watch is not recording any 'Deep Sleep' which is where the body repairs itself. Meanwhile, I'm super fatigued. I am grateful for people saying they struggled with fatigue, too.

After my 3rd injection of Evenity the insomnia started and even tho I did not get the 4th injection it took 3 months to get back to normal. I thought I was going to loose my mind it was so bad. I am now on Prolia but will not get the next injection because of GI issues. I am so tired of side effects Im just going to take my chances without any osteoporosis medication.

Thats exactly what happened to me - I could not get into any deep sleep. My eyes were closed and I guess you could say I was resting, but I wasnt really asleep. Very weird feeling. My endocrinologist also said that she had never heard of that. Totally unbelievable that I am the only one. I think the manufacturer should know.

I got Evenity injections for 6 months and had extreme headaches and insomnia the whole time. I couldn’t sleep more than 1 1/2 - 2 hours at a time, 4-6 hours total each night. It was 6 months of hell for me. I finally told my endocrinologist I couldn’t live like that any longer and stopped the injections. I had anew dexa scan and the improvements were negligible. Definitely not worth doing another 6 months. Now she wants me to take a different drug but I always have bad side effects to all prescription drugs so I guess I’m going to have to just continue with my diet and weight bearing exercise and hope I don’t get any fractures

Sleep deprivation is no joke. I had no problems until the 3rd injection then the insomnia hit. It was horrible and took me 3 months to get back to "normal". I never took the 4th injection and am now on Prolia which gave me bad GI symptoms for the first few months. Im due for the next injection in June but I am not going to do it. Looking into other options. Good luck!

@mchinkston Call the drug company that makes Evenity to report adverse reaction. We need more people reporting sleep problems. Even they hadn't heard of it...well obviously people are having that reaction, even if it's rare.

Insomnia is listed as one of the side effects of evenity. I have had it the entire 12 months, and just got the last shots a week ago. It is a brutal side effect. I researched how long it lasts after ending the shots: stays in body for 64 days after last shot. I’m scheduled now to start prolia in 3 weeks.
The insomnia has been harder to handle than the joint pain.
My dr suggested aleve pm, and it does help a little. I try not to take it every night.
With that being said, I did have significant improvement in Scan score!
I do think the side effects should be highlighted more and reviewed every 3 months.
