Has anyone ever tried stem cell activators for osteoporosis?

Posted by mmcdimarco3 @mmcdimarco3, Apr 18, 2023

I am very concerned about going on osteoporosis medicine. My mother, her mother, my grandmother both had renal failure. They were both diabetic but I'm not diabetic. I didn't realize until recently that renal failure has a strong genetic component. My doctors don't seem concerned but I am especially since by blood work in January showed high level of phorsus. I've had several compression fractures. Still trying to find an alternative to prescription drugs.

I’ve read the posts here this morning about Algae Cal and their complement of Strontium Boost. I will tell you the I took these products for a good hand full of years. My DEXA did improve by 6%. Terrific right- NOT SO!! Though my readings were still in osteoporosis range in my spine the drs conclusion was - meds not indicated at this time. The next summer standing up from a couch in an inappropriate way, that at the time I wasn’t aware of by using forward flexion,I suffered a L1 fracture. I continued on these supplements for a few months after . Because of my new situation of a fractured spine I really started drilling down in my research and understanding. Strontium is heavier than Calcium and takes the place in your bones making your DEXA result look better. I have since stopped Strontium and am planning to stop Algae Cal soon by using other supplements to provide the things I want and need. Though the idea of the Calcium from algae sounds wonderful I have read from a very good course that actually Calcium Citrate is the better
choise. Good luck on your path as we all learn!!!!

Try Red Mineral Algae. It doesnt have strontium in it, but does have calcium and magnesium from algae. My endo who does not like strontium approved of this.

@mmcdimarco3 I don't know a thing about this - had never heard of it until your question, but I did a google search and found this among many other articles. I don't know what is legit and what is not as it relates to OP.

Scary to hear about the compression fractures.do you have an endocrinologist or rheumatologist? What frightens you about the osteoporosis meds?

There does seem to be an increasing interest in stem cell therapy for various medical issues. Here is a link to a private facility in Germany that works with stem cells: https://anova-irm.com/en/anova-irm-stem-cell-center/overview-anova-irm-stem-cell-center

Please let us know if you find out more about stem cell therapy and OP.

Meanwhile, for people citing instances of improved DEXA scans and fractures, or who are disappointed that they have osteopenia and fractures while some people with OP do not, there has been discussion about the difference between bone density and bone strength. Supposedly that is why the REMS ultrasound scan is better than a basic DEXA, because it includes information on bone strength as well as density. The TBS software used on some DEXA scans supposedly offers similar insight. I had the REMS earlier this year and it showed good bone strength for my age. Hope it's true!

Looks like I can not tolerate Forteo and my endocrinologist says all other options have worse side effects.

Is there any legitimate place in the world that treats osteoporosis with stem cells?

I just became aware of a therapy called vsel. Dr Greenberg Bryn Mawr PA is an orthopedic doctor. Look it up. Technology is only 3 years old and is being practiced nationwide by other doctors as well. It is expensive and not covered by insurance. Blood is taken and your own embryonic stem cells are harvested. After going through some type of lazer technology the cells are put back into your body. I'm told results are amazing. If you go on dr Greenberg's website you can read about it. Good luck.

The best data so far suggest that VSELs are probably not real. Yet at the same time as I said more patients are contacting me. They have run across marketing for supposed VSEL therapies. The patients ask about clinics that are selling VSEL treatments or MUSE cells to treat numerous conditions. It’s concerning because if, as seems almost certain, VSELs are not real, then what are the clinics injecting into people? What are the risks?
