Has anyone else had this or a similar reaction from Reclast?
I had 2 of the 3 infusions of Reclast. Between the two infusions I noticed some painful changes in my gums. Then shortly after the second one, I had to have both my canine teeth pulled (at different times), then another lower front tooth had to be removed. Suddenly, I have 3 teeth that are breaking, and my gums seem to be receding to the point where I can literally rub my finger over the actual bottom of many of my teeth. I also have several teeth that are decaying as evidenced by black spots. I was told by a local dentist that it is possible that I have Osteonecrosis developing post 2 infusions of Reclast. I refused the third infusion. I cannot afford dental care and do not have insurance.

Davi Ford, osteonecrosis is usually covered under medical insurance. It is a serious medical condition that can destroy your jaw. You really have to have medical treatment. It may not be osteonecrosis. But long term use of bisphosphonates, especially Reclast because it is the strongest bisphosphonate carry MRONJ risk.
ONJ doesn't usually cause teeth to break and it doesn't cause dental caries. It does usually begin after invasive dental work.
You could check local and federal programs for financial help.

2 ReactionsDaviFord, This sounds very painful and concerning. Your dentist is most likely on the right track. Contact the MD that prescribed Reclast and let him/her know what is goining on. Many doctors/pharmacists are not telling patients the side effects of the medications unless you ask. You must ask the prescriber for a list of side effects of ANY medication they suggest so you can weigh the risks and be aware of first symptoms that manifest themselves. You can also ask your pharmacist for a complete list of side effects. They used to give this automatically. They were long sheets with lots of info. in very small fonts that most people ignored. They were very challenging to read. Your pharmacist can give you important information in larger print if you request it. I discontinued my bisposponate ( a weekly pill) after one month when I was awakened from a deep sleep with intense pain from my heel to my thigh and then a severe headache on one side of my face from the top of my head to the base of my jaw. I had previously read necrosis of the jaw was a side effect. My orthopedist had also suggested that it was a medication with terrible side effects. When my endroconologist suggested Reclast, although convenient, I thought about possible side effects and reasoned that once a three month injection was in my system there was no getting it out if I had an undesirable side effect. Some patients have very good outcomes with bisphosphonates but everyone is different, just like aspirin. Some people can tolerate it some develop allergies, some get total relief others none. Talk to your doctor about other options, then go online yourself and check out the medication. There are many forms of bisphosphonates. Google it online, AI will at least give you an overview and refer you to NIH (the national institute of health website) where you will be given more info. Best to you.
