Has anyone else been diagnosed with neuropathy in conjunction with PMR
Has anyone else experienced this? If yes what was treatment?
Numb feet in the morning - toes remain numb. Electrical shocks of pain through calves and shins throughout the day. Searing pain in ankles. Unable to sit for any length of time.
I’ve already had an MRI ruling out spinal issues.

I had peripheral neuropathy develop after PMR was diagnosed. It slowly progressed its way up legs. I had a nerve conduction study done that confirmed peripheral neuropathy in both legs and both arms. I never sensed anything wrong in my upper extremities. I suppose the numbness and weakness in my legs was more noticeable because an MRI scan revealed severe lumbar spinal stenosis.
The cause of the my peripheral neuropathy was never determined and was called "idiopathic" since diabetes wasn't the cause. In retrospect, I think elevated blood glucose levels from prednisone did cause my peripheral neuropathy. My HbA1c never reached the threshold of diabetes but I was borderline. My endocrinologist said even though I wasn't diabetic I had insulin resistance from long term Prednisone use.
Insulin resistance is part of metabolic syndrome which contributes to nerve damage. Prednisone causes metabolic alterations that, with long-term use, can contribute to the development of metabolic syndrome.
I think my peripheral neuropathy has improved since I got off Prednisone. I still have PMR so it is doubtful PMR caused neuropathy to develop.
My rheumatologist doesn't think any autoimmune condition caused my peripheral neuropathy. However, Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP), as well as systemic autoimmune diseases like lupus (SLE), Sjögren's syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and vasculitis can cause peripheral neuropathy. In these conditions, the body's immune system mistakenly attacks its own peripheral nerves or the protective myelin sheath covering them, leading to nerve damage and symptoms of neuropathy.
