Has anyone been diagnosed with an Ileus?

Posted by marygail1132 @marygail1132, Aug 25, 2025

I was recently diagnosed with an Ileus. I have never experienced this before and was wondering if anyone else has this and how they handle it. I do not see a support group under this name.

@kanaazpereira I am recovering from ileus and I need to know what I can’t eat. Such as dry herbs etc.

@leaand how long does it take to get an answer from my questions?

Hi @leaand and welcome to Connect. We are a community of individuals who help support each other by sharing our experiences and what has helped us. We are not healthcare providers, and so we don't give medical advice.

I'm sorry it's been taking longer than you would like to get a response to your question. You asked it in an unrelated topic, so it's probably not getting seen by people who have had ileus and may have suggestions. I have not had ileus, so I can't offer much for you.

May I suggest you start a new thread in Digestive Health and include details about what caused your ileus, when it was diagnosed, and anything else that might be relevant? Have you seen a healthcare provider? Have you been given any instruction on post ileus care?

@leaand, welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect, a forum where you can meet others with similar health issues. It is not a place to get professional medical care.

To help you connect with other people who have dealt with ileus, I moved your question to this existing discussion:

- Has anyone been diagnosed with an Ileus?https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/has-anyone-been-diagnosed-with-an-ileus/

As you likely know, Ileus is a condition in which the bowel does not work correctly, but there is no structural problem causing the obstruction.

@leaand are you in active ileus or or in recovery (ileus has resolved)?

It's possible that no one on this board has experienced this. I also had a rare condition, a cecal volvulus, and only found one other person with that.
