Half of Prostate Cancer Focal Therapy Cases Were Inappropriate

In opening up the initial hyperlink (before the one above) at the beginning of the topic I found buried within a summary article, a previous European 2024 study now linked here. [It seems registration on the Renal and Urology site is required first.] Incidentally, 'inappropriate' in this context means outside a clinical study. It does not imply poor outcomes. Other descriptions of patient selection would have better served an exposition of the subject matter. The European study showed that focal (HIFU) was not non-inferior to radical prostatectomy. Moreover, the side effects on subsequent 'quality of life' (QOL) measures were 25--30% lower in the ablative (focal) treatment. I hope this reframes the subject matter for those hopefully only inadvertantly mislead by a non-medical criterion.
