Half face red

Pls. see photo attached.
My dermatologist says the rash was caused by accidental contact with the ointment I use on the skin cancer on my right hand. She says it will go away by itself.
If you've had a similar problem please let me know. It scares little kids and dogs and me.

@tadueo Did your dermatologist make any suggestions for a lotion to use lightly on your face, to ease the discomfort and redness? I'm thinking perhaps a lightweight moisturizer or vitamin E lotion. I have done that before with some success. No, the symptoms did not disappear right away, but they were lessened.

While your skin is irritated like that, remember that it is pretty sensitive! Wear sunscreen, and when you wash your face, be gentle. That's been my experience.

What was the ointment you used for your right hand?

Thanks for the advice.
It appears to be a custom mix. Printed on the label "FC FLUOR 5% CALCIP .005%
1.1 ANH BASE 30GM BUD35". 30 grams for $45.
In 2 weeks I see another dermatologist and will try for a second opinion.

in reply to @tadueo I was prescribed that cream for my face, but when I discovered my copay, I have now opted to have a precancerous lesion either frozen off or go to another specialist for the light therapy. I was fully prepared for the consequences, but I can't justify the cost by any stretch of imagination.

Wow. I was only charged $45 for the cream and $40 for the visit. I thought that was reasonable. I used it twice a day for 2 weeks and it looks like the eight squamous cell carcinomas on my hand have now scabbed over.
I couldn't figure out why the back of my right hand had 8 cancers and my left hand none until I remembered that
I held my fishing pole in my right hand all those years I was on the water fishing. Sun got me.
Good luck with your treatment.

Ah, yes, a compounded fluorouracil mix. I use one for my face. It can cause some interesting interactions. And, it might just be that the area on your face is reacting to the ointment as precancerous surfaces! Just a thought...

A second opinion would be a high priority, if it were me. In the meantime, an online appointment with CVS med clinic may prescribe something to sooth the red skin. If you can get triamcinolone acetonide steroid ointment or cream 0.01% prescription, it should help calm inflammation. I use the white cream version to stop itchy areas. A nonsteroidal cream called Dermaleve is available over the counter online at their website. It is safe to use on face.

Thanks. I'll check it out.
