When did hair loss start with Abraxone/Gecitabine chemo?

Have had 2 rounds with 3rd coming Friday. Getting mixed messages about the likihood of hair loss. Was going to be pro-active, get a short cut and fit for a wig. Now I am not sure if I should wait and see what happens. What has been your experience. If you did lose, how long after beginning treatment, especially if this combo of drugs.

My husband was genetically half bald going into treatments with gen/abrax. He did not lose hair from 6 months of folfironox, but hair loss started immediately from the gen/abrax. He started growing hair back within a month or two after stopping the gen/abrax regimen. Unfortunately gen/abrax did not work for him.
Good luck to you with your treatments.

I had thinning with FOLFIRINOX, but complete hair loss (entire body) by the 2nd treatment if Gem/Abrax.

My husband lost his hair very quickly. Maybe 6 weeks. But it grew back about 6 months after that.

Hair loss at about 2 weeks from start of Gem/Abraxane. It did start to come back when I had been on a break & did not have chemo for four months. Unfortunately, I had to restart chemo. Now on a break after 40+ treatments & my husband saw some tiny hairs starting to come out after last treatment was 18 Dec. 2025 🙂

I did 18 weeks with Gembincibne abrexine and cisplatin in two weeks on one week off lost all my hair at the end of the treatment. It took about two months, but it all came back a little different color. I have some new waves, but it all came back.

No hair loss at all after 6 mos. of Folfirinox, which I tolerated much better than Gem./Abraxane. About a month after starting Gem./Abraxane I lost all hair. I've been off that mixture for a few months and all my hair has grown back. Gem./Abraxane was effective for me and shrunk the two tumors down to the point that I was accepted for IMRT radiation therapy. Last PET scan shows the cancer is metastasizing again. Which was not a surprise.

My wife had the identical experience. Folfirinox ++ had some hair loss, but the Gem./Abraxane had significant/most all hair loss. She has found the wigs from Mayo do wonders for her new look. We have just had our second round of Gem/Abrax after 12 + rounds of the Folfirinox, hoping for shrinkage of the tumor as we move forward... Stay strong!

after treatment 3, once it started falling out it was nonstop and should have been in gale force winds to make it faster, lol. I shaved it as soon as I could. Eyebrows and eye lashes held on the longest, made it to treatment #9 until they left me, I miss them the most but have found eye brows on amazon, work pretty good! After switching my treatrment to every other week I have some growth, but probably not enough for it to look nice, # 19 coming up.

@corieg crazy enough, my eye lashes were the last to go but first to grow back after I stopped gem/abrax. Now the brows are another story (i blame an over plucking incident in high school 🤣)

Have you tried brow growth serum? Just curious, I plan to. But I wear the fake ones so much……they are super easy 🤗
