Had TKR revision due to recalled replacement

I am 5 months after TKR revision and still can’t get leg straight and range of motion is 100. Have pain. Sleep with brace to straighten leg which is not working. Had 9 dry needling treatments to relax muscles and ham string and quads. Had a manipulation under anesthesia that didn’t work. I am frustrated and some days depressed. I go to therapy 3 times a week since May and do many exercises at home. Bought an exercise bike and have a flexinator to help with range of motion. My life is at a stand still. If anyone can give me any encouragement that this will just take more time I would appreciate it. Thank you

@george12345 What an difficult situation to find yourself in, revision is no fun. In 2011 my implants were recalled - not my knee, but my hips. They were recalled due to danger of metal poisoning. In my case I was young (under 65), my pain was always at a 5 or higher, and I had symptoms from the metallosis, so the decision to revise was easy.

Based on your description, I would have a LONG talk with a surgeon who does a lot of revisions about the risks versus benefits of revision.

One thing to consider - chronic inflammation (as evidenced by the swelling & pain) is very hard on your entire body, and could cause you to develop other problems, or age faster. If you are generally active and in good health, you might want to avoid that scenario.

It might help to keep a journal for a month, recording pain and swelling levels each day, and noting the days' activities, to see how often it really is flaring, and maybe even whether it is getting worse.

Will the manufacturer cover the costs of revision and rehab, including any help you might need during that time?

Good food for thought. Thank you. The mfg of my devise went bankrupt as soon as they got caught making bad products. All Costs on my insurance and co-pays.
