Does anyone take gummies or edibles to manage going through radiation?

Posted by anosmic1 @anosmic1, Nov 4 10:28pm

Lupron shot was 3 weeks ago (Hello, hot flashes). Simulation is 3 weeks from now, with radiation starting a week later. My sister-in-law suggested I get gummies or edibles to handle the discomfort that could come with 8 weeks of radiation. Has anyone done that? Did it help?

I had 28 sessions of proton radiation (during April-May 2021) and experienced no “discomfort” at all. Never had to use gummies/edibles or other related products,

#1 key to minimizing discomfort is for them not to overshoot the prostate and hit otherwise healthy tissues and organs.

#2 key to minimizing discomfort is for you to do a proper and consistent full bladder/empty bowel routine each session.

Are you using a rectal spacer?

Taking necessary precautions prior to treatment is the key to avoiding these discomfort issues.

Have you discussed your concerns wuth your medical team?

I had five sessions of SBRT. The biggest issue for me was inflammation. Gummies do nothing for that. Ibuprofen helped. I did use gummies occasionally for insomnia.

The only discomfort during radiation for me was having to go in with a full bladder. A year later, some irritation to my lower bladder and rectum manifested itself (for most people, that clears up, but mine seems permanent).

well you might want a few gummies for the spacer procedure...it aint fun !..my exp so far with radiation is quite a bit of incontinence ( mostly urine but occasional trots to bathroom with #2) ..and occasional fatigue...

I have about 4 weeks left...you need to drink ALOT of water before each treatment so your bladder is full...so far nothing horrible, but looking forward to last session..

now the spacer is another story..it is full on transmission work..about 15 minutes worth...the whole service garage stops to watch..try to get a cut of the concessions and ticket sales ! ;=)

@scottbeammeup CBD oils are helpful for longer term inflammation . CBD , Doesn't give you a 'high' , and help with inflammation.

I had over eight weeks of radiation and had no side effects at all until five years later when I started having some incontinence problems. That could also be due to the fact that I had surgery 3 1/2 years before the radiation.

Have now had 3 separate treatments of radiation (42 initial sessions to the prostate bed and a lymph node + 10 to metastatic spinal lesions + 5 / 5 (to two more subsequent spots on spine)… I never experienced “discomfort” which would require gummies (OR pain meds). Perhaps I’m lucky — but, for me, radiation was NOT overwhelming.

I laid off alcohol pre and post RARP. Did not take any pain meds. But did chomp on edibles which I believe made the whole ordeal more peaceful.
