Great Office Visit at Mayo Clinic Health System: Medicare Wellness

Posted by dennisyecke @dennisyecke, May 11 10:08am

Had appointment for Medicare Wellness Visit and physical with Dr. Eric Mollgaard. It was great! First, Ashley checked me in and she was so sweet. Then Haley quickly went over all relevant info on the computer, very professional and friendly. Then doctor came in and talked to my wife and me like an old friend, altho we have only seen him a few times. Lastly, Tammy washed the wax out of my ears. Did a fantastic job, not giving up until the last "rock" was removed. We felt so valued and cared for, enjoying everyone's company so that we didn't even want to leave. Not sure where to send this, but wanted to give lots of praise to my team!!

here's a little life hack for folks.

staff at offices, including doctor's offices tend, like everyone else, to be stressed from work and over work.

Never hurts to break that ice, so that people are talking to people...instead of some other and negative power dynamic.

Simple solution: Chocolate.

Oh yeah. I often bring chocolate in for the doctor's staff. My favorite is Lindt Assorted Truffles.

Nothing says happiness like chocolate.

Very hard to be mad and bossy at someone who just brought you chocolate.

And it is not about manipulation. It is just about breaking that wall, between business and being human with each other.

And, you know, never hurts to memorize a few good jokes. Laughter always helps.

So, I was at a doctor's office with a particularly nasty intake person. I got in there with a different intake person and asked about "Mrs. Nasty."

Well, as it turns out, her husband died in 9/11.

After I wiped a few tears from my eyes, I got to understand things quite a bit better. I never gave her chocolates or told her jokes, but somehow, I guess, just feeling compassion for her evolved into us being human with each other.
